Jimmy Carter, the former President, paid tribute to his late wife, Rosalynn Carter, by attending her memorial service in their home state of Georgia. At 99 years old, he was seen at the ceremony on Tuesday, November 28, held at the Glenn Memorial Church at Emory University in Atlanta. Seated in a wheelchair, Jimmy was covered by a blanket with Rosalynn's face, their last name, and their hometown of Plains, Georgia.
The Carters' family and friends were joined by several former presidents and first ladies at the service, including Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, Michelle Obama, and Melania Trump. President Joe Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff also attended.
Country stars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, friends of the former first lady, performed at the memorial. Rosalynn's funeral is scheduled to take place at the Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains on Wednesday, November 29.
The memorial service took place just over a week following the passing of Rosalynn at the age of 96. "Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, a fervent advocate for mental health, caregiving, and women's rights, passed away on Sunday, November 19, at 2:10 p.m. at her residence in Plains, Georgia," stated the Carter Center earlier this month. "She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family."
In a statement, Jimmy Carter referred to his wife as his "equal partner in everything I ever accomplished," and expressed that he always felt loved and supported as long as Rosalynn was with him.

Rosalynn, who was married to Jimmy for 77 years, is survived by their four children, 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Shortly before her passing, Rosalynn entered hospice care as she battled dementia, while her husband Jimmy had also entered hospice care earlier in the year after a series of hospital stays. The Carter Center announced the news on November 17, stating that the couple was spending time with each other and their family.
Throughout her lifetime, Rosalynn was a staunch advocate for mental health awareness and care. In a statement released in May, the Carter family disclosed the matriarch’s dementia diagnosis, emphasizing that "One in 10 older Americans have dementia, a condition that impacts overall mental health."

We acknowledge, just as she did over fifty years ago, that stigma frequently prevents individuals and their families from seeking the essential support they need. By sharing our family's news, we aim to stimulate meaningful discussions at kitchen tables and in doctor's offices throughout the country.
Rosalynn and Jimmy founded the Carter Center nonprofit in 1982 and helped build and repair over 4,000 homes for Habitat for Humanity.
