Content from Opening Weekend:
Hey everyone, I wanted to share some of my experiences from the opening weekend. As I had mentioned before, I decided to go incognito by wearing glasses and a beard, and attended multiple screenings. As expected, nobody recognized me, but I did have some amusing encounters.
I attended the first showing on Thursday at 2PM, which had a small audience. Just before the movie began, a teenage couple entered the theater. The girlfriend, dressed as Toy Chica, sat beside me. Clearly, she was a devoted fan, unlike her boyfriend. As they came in, I overhead her saying, "Imagine if Scott Cawthon were here." Shortly after finding their seats, she whispered, pointing at me, "He kinda looks like Scott Cawthon." Her boyfriend glanced at me and replied, "Well, dear, he's old." In response, I must say that two things can be true simultaneously.
Later in the day, I went to another showing, and five dedicated fans dressed up as characters joined me, occupying the seats next to mine. After chatting among themselves for a few minutes, they casually stood up, moved a few seats away from me, and sat back down. I assure you, I had applied deodorant... perhaps not enough?
The Friday evening showing was incredible. The theater was filled to capacity, and the sound of cheers and applause was invigorating. It was a truly enjoyable experience. At one point, I decided to take a trip to the restroom and happened to pass a group of teenagers sitting in the front row. Interestingly, one of them greeted me with the words, "Hey, Dad." Although not my actual son, I playfully responded with "Hey son." It was a lighthearted moment that made me feel like I had gained a new honorary son somewhere out there.
The following Saturday evening, I attended another showing. This time, I wore a t-shirt that featured a design from the Security Breach series. While standing in line behind a young woman wearing a Freddy hat, who was waiting to get popcorn and drinks, she turned around and complimented my shirt by saying, "I like the shirt!" That small gesture truly made my night.
Anyway, I would like to express my gratitude to each and every one of you for contributing to the immense triumph of the opening weekend. It has far exceeded any expectations I had. Rest assured, I meticulously go through the comments and critiques, and while I am delighted that the majority of individuals had an exceptional time at the cinema, I am wholeheartedly attentive to any feedback. It is important for me to convey this sentiment to all of you.
Will There Be A Five Nights At Freddy's Sequel?
Five Nights at Freddy's received negative early reviews, with a 30% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the audience score stands strong at 88%. This mirrors a recent trend where popular titles see a divergence between these two scores. An example of this is The Super Mario Bros. Movie which faced a similar situation, yet managed to achieve tremendous success, becoming the first billion-dollar movie of the year.
Despite criticism, the financial success of a movie often determines its future, and the box office performance of Five Nights at Freddy's is a clear success. With this being Blumhouse's most successful opening weekend, it is unlikely that the production company will abandon plans for a sequel. Actor Matthew Lillard has already confirmed his involvement in a three-movie deal for the franchise, leaving little doubt about the possibility of another film. Additionally, creator Scott Cawthon's acknowledgement of criticism and willingness to consider it may indicate that he is already contemplating ideas for the next script.
As of now, Five Nights at Freddy's has earned a staggering $152 million globally.
Blumhouse and Universal Pictures have not provided any official updates regarding a potential sequel to Five Nights at Freddy's 2. However, director Emma Tammi expressed her willingness to return if the first film succeeds. As the writers strike concludes and the SAG-AFTRA strike appears to be nearing its end, Hollywood is gradually resuming its normal operations. Given the impressive performance of Five Nights At Freddy's, there is a strong likelihood that the franchise will make a comeback on the silver screen in the near future.
