The MCU has faced its fair share of criticism in recent years, and now it's The Marvels' turn. This time, the confusion stems from a new poster. The film is already starting off on the wrong foot, with a runtime cut in half and a trailer that has fans outraged.
According to the film's synopsis, Carol Danvers, also known as Captain Marvel, has regained her true self after defeating the oppressive Kree and seeking vengeance against the Supreme Intelligence. However, unforeseen circumstances result in her shouldering the responsibility of a universe in chaos. When her mission leads her to a mysterious wormhole connected to a Kree rebel, her powers intertwine with those of two other superheroes, giving rise to the Marvels.
The anticipation for the latest Marvel release has decreased, and the newly released poster for The Marvels, which prominently features cats, has further divided fans.
The Marvels has a new poster – and fans are unsure
The latest poster for The Marvels has just been released – and judging by one Twitter/X thread, the fan reaction isn’t too overwhelming.
“I don’t see any excitement for this,” one fan said, with another adding “It’s cheaper to pay the cats with food than actors.”
"This movie is bound to be a massive failure," another individual remarked.
"It's quite evident that they are emphasizing the cat theme," observed a fourth fan, as a fifth person commented, "This is the final straw." "Perhaps they should have the cats conduct promotional interviews," recommended another person.
However, what is the connection between The Marvels and a small group of felines? These feline creatures, known as flerkens and later revealed to be man-eating aliens, were first introduced in Brie Larson's initial release as Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel. Entertainment Weekly reported that Goose, one of these flerkens, would be making a return in The Marvels, and the new poster hints at the possibility of more of them appearing in the film.
"It's fascinating to observe the contrast between this movie and the original Captain Marvel. The previous film had the added excitement of Infinity War, whereas this one must succeed on its own merits...and boy, that's quite a challenge," added another individual.
However, for certain fans, the use of feline posters was indeed worth the anticipation. "It seems I'll be watching The Marvels," one fan declared, while another concurred, stating "the movie of the decade is on its way."

As a Gen Z fan, I have mixed feelings about the new Cats poster for The Marvels. On the one hand, I think it's a fun and creative way to promote the film. The cats are cute and eye-catching, and they definitely make the poster stand out from the crowd. On the other hand, I can understand why some fans are disappointed. The Marvels is a highly anticipated film, and many fans were expecting a more traditional superhero poster. I think Marvel Studios could have done a better job of balancing the whimsy of the cats with the seriousness of the film.
Overall, I think the Cats poster is a bit of a missed opportunity. It's a fun and creative idea, but it doesn't quite capture the essence of the film. I'm still excited to see The Marvels, but I'm hoping that the next poster will be a bit more representative of the film's tone.
