Fact check: Donald Trump criticizes Jimmy Kimmel for a mistake Al Pacino made

After Jimmy Kimmel's latest monologue targeted at ex-President Donald Trump, Trump retaliates on social media by blaming Kimmel for a blunder that was actually done by Al Pacino, not Kimmel.

Jimmy Kimmel poked fun at former President Donald Trump in his late-night monologue on Tuesday. The next morning, Trump retaliated on social media, calling Kimmel "stupid." He criticized Kimmel's hosting of the Academy Awards in March, claiming Kimmel had read aloud Trump's critical social media post during the show. Trump also accused Kimmel of stumbling through announcing the "Picture of the Year" award.

Trump claimed that Jimmy Kimmel made a big mistake during the Oscars, calling it a classic choke. He said Kimmel forgot to say the famous line "AND THE WINNER IS" and instead stumbled over his words while opening the envelope.

However, the fact is that Trump's claim is untrue. It was actually Al Pacino, not Jimmy Kimmel, who made a strange announcement when announcing the Best Picture winner. And the current standard phrase for announcing Oscars winners is "and the Oscar goes to," not "and the winner is" as it used to be before 1989.

Kimmel had a witty response to Trump's mix-up. He referenced Trump's "stable genius" compliment to himself in the past. On Wednesday afternoon, Kimmel took to the platform X (formerly Twitter) and humorously stated, "In fairness to our former President, many stable geniuses confuse me with Al Pacino."

The Biden campaign mocked Trump on social media for his latest error regarding verbal slip-ups during their presidential campaigns. A Trump campaign spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment immediately.
