Trump Enlists Prominent Former Federal Prosecutor to Bolster His Defense Team

Donald Trump bolsters his defense team with top legal experts, including a seasoned former federal prosecutor from New York, according to a reliable source

Donald Trump has enlisted the services of two additional lawyers for his legal team, according to a reliable source. Among them is Emil Bove, formerly a federal prosecutor in New York and co-chief of the national security unit at the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York.

Kendra Wharton, an experienced white-collar defense lawyer based in Washington, DC, will be lending her expertise to the former president's legal team. This addition further extends the already comprehensive legal team assembled by the former president. Trump currently faces two federal indictments by special counsel Jack Smith, along with ongoing state criminal prosecutions in New York and Georgia.

In a statement to CNN, Trump's attorney Todd Blanche described Bove as a highly skilled litigator in white collar and CIPA-related cases, while praising Wharton as a brilliant lawyer who has earned the trust of her clients for many years.

Following Trump's decision in June to dismiss his top defense attorneys in the classified documents case, namely Jim Trusty and John Rowley, his legal team has remained relatively small. Rowley and Trusty subsequently resigned from the legal team altogether.

Timothy Parlatore, who had a crucial role in the investigation of Mar-a-Lago documents and provided testimony before the grand jury, has also departed from Trump's legal team at the start of summer.

Leading the legal team now is Blanche, whom Trump hired in April following his indictment in Manhattan. Another prominent figure, Attorney Chris Kise, the former Florida solicitor general, has also assumed a significant role in the Mar-a-Lago documents case.

In Washington, Blanche is joined by attorney John Lauro to defend Trump in the federal election interference case brought by the special counsel.
