Ana Navarro believes that Jada Pinkett Smith's declaration of separation is primarily motivated by financial gain rather than by a genuine desire to express her true feelings. Navarro, who is 51 years old, made this comment during the episode of The View that aired on Wednesday, October 11. She suggested that Pinkett Smith, who is 52 years old, is seeking to capitalize on the increased publicity and book sales that result from these shocking revelations made on her show, Red Table Talk.
Navarro added: “I find it unseemly, and I will tell you this: Be careful of anybody who pretends to have a perfect marriage.”
Jada Pinkett Smith's comments follow her recent revelation that she and her husband Will Smith have been living separately since 2016. She shared this information while promoting her latest book, Worthy.
"I vowed to never give a reason for divorce, committing to work through any challenges. I have held steadfastly to that promise," Pinkett Smith candidly revealed in an interview with Hoda Kotb on the Today show that aired on Wednesday. She further confessed, "Although we live separately."
As for Navarro, she pondered aloud to her fellow cohosts on The View, "Why am I so familiar with the intricacies of their marriage? It seems like I am more knowledgeable about their relationship than I am about my own."
Sunny Hostin voiced her disagreement with Navarro, expressing her fascination with Pinkett Smith and Smith's ongoing highs and lows. Hostin, aged 54, asserted that the Girls Trip actress had full entitlement to reveal the intricacies of her relationship, given that it is a memoir.
"I consider it an act of great bravery and courage when she shares in her memoir that they have been separated throughout this entire period," Hostin commented. "I believe her motivation goes beyond financial gain; she is already well-off."
Smith, aged 55, and Pinkett Smith, who have two children together - Jaden, aged 25, and Willow, aged 22 - have faced numerous challenges in their marriage. (Smith also has a son named Trey, aged 30, from his previous marriage to Sheree Zampino.)
In July 2020, Pinkett Smith made headlines when August Alsina alleged that he had a romantic relationship with the actress. Although she initially denied his claims, Pinkett Smith later admitted to an "entanglement" with the 31-year-old musician while she and Smith were separated. During a Red Table Talk episode in July 2020, Smith and his estranged wife stated that they had moved past the scandal.
Two years later, the couple who had grown apart made headlines once more when Smith's behavior at the 2022 Oscars made waves. While attending the awards ceremony, Smith impulsively slapped presenter Chris Rock in response to a joke about Pinkett Smith's bald head. (Pinkett Smith had previously shaved her head due to her alopecia.)
Following the incident, Smith expressed remorse and issued a public apology. However, the consequence of his action resulted in a 10-year ban from all future Oscars events, as he chose to resign from the esteemed Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
However, Pinkett Smith now suggests that there may be a deeper motive behind Smith's aggressive reaction towards Rock. In an interview with People on Wednesday, Pinkett Smith revealed that Rock had made advances towards her during a summer when there were rumors of her getting divorced.
According to Pinkett Smith, Rock called her and expressed his interest in taking her out, assuming that she and Will were separating. She clarified that the divorce rumors were untrue, which shocked Rock. He immediately apologized and the matter was resolved.
