Laura Bileskalne is unfazed by the public's perception of her following the consent scandal on Season 2 of Below Deck Down Under. Taking to her Instagram Story on Thursday, August 10, she expressed her understanding that being on a reality show with a strong personality means facing negative opinions. She acknowledged that in the world of reality TV, one must be captivating enough to generate conversation, as people are not going to focus on the aesthetics or quality of the decor and drinks.
Laura mentioned Margot Sisson and Adam Kodra in her message, suggesting that she had a good relationship with her former costars. She expressed her appreciation for the support they show each other, even if it means receiving hateful messages in her direct messages. She doesn't take these messages personally, but sees them as a sign of people's interest and investment in the show.
In two consecutive episodes of the popular Bravo series, which aired on Monday, August 7th, Luke Jones was depicted entering Margot's room while she was asleep naked after a crew night out. The producers intervened and Luke was asked to leave the room. The next morning, Captain Jason fired him from the show.
Laura, on the other hand, was dismissed following her accusation against Margot regarding Luke's termination. Jason also cited Laura's inappropriate romantic gestures towards Adam as a contributing factor behind her termination.
Laura Bileskalne expressed her apology to Adam for her difficulty in concealing her feelings towards him. She acknowledged that her behavior may have been overbearing and thanked him for accepting her apology. Furthermore, Laura addressed the viewer outrage, emphasizing the futility of combating harassment with more harassment. She made it clear that she does not endorse social media bullying and harassment, placing the responsibility for such actions on the viewers.
Below Deck Down Under's second season has been making waves in recent news due to the controversial departures of Luke and Laura.
Laura took to Instagram on Tuesday, August 8, to address the drama by apologizing to Adam for unknowingly making him feel uncomfortable. She also acknowledged that no one should be placed in such a position. Additionally, Laura expressed regret for not being able to empathize with Margot. She shared that she was 29 when the show was filmed, with 30 being a turning point in her life. Now, at 31, she watches the show like everyone else, simply as entertainment.
Meanwhile, Jason has used his platform to encourage viewers to show more empathy.
"I'm aware that you're processing episodes six and seven just like I am. In the past 24 hours, I've received numerous messages from people in similar situations, some with less fortunate outcomes, and my thoughts are with them," he shared in an Instagram video on Wednesday, August 9th. "I want to express my gratitude to the production team for breaking the fourth wall and intervening. They then allowed Aesha to approach me in an authentic manner, and we handled it the way we would as captain and crew. ... Remember, this happened over a year ago, and I want to emphasize that everyone involved is hopefully on a path towards self-improvement."
