Nick and Aaron Carter's challenges and difficulties are the focus of a new docuseries.
The upcoming Investigation Discovery series, Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter, will profile Nick, 44, and Aaron, who passed away in November 2022 at the age of 34.
According to Variety, a two-part series will explore the sexual assault allegations against Nick, a founding member of the Backstreet Boys, made by three women.
The series will also follow Aaron's challenges with mental health and substance abuse leading up to his accidental drowning, attributed to difluoroethane and alprazolam.
Furthermore, the series will explore the strained relationship between the brothers, particularly following Aaron's decision to side with the women who accused his older brother of assault.
According to a press release from Investigation Discovery, "Aaron Carter chose to support Nick's accusers during this time, all while dealing with addiction and facing challenges with his mental health." This ultimately fueled a highly publicized feud between the siblings leading up to Aaron's untimely passing in 2022.

The upcoming series will feature interviews with all three of Nick’s accusers: Melissa Schuman, Ashley Repp, and Shannon “Shay” Ruth. It will also include interviews with Nick’s ex-girlfriend Kaya Jones, Aaron’s former fiancée Melanie Martin, and a member of the Carter family who has chosen to remain anonymous.
In November 2017, Schuman, a former member of the 2000s girl group Dream, came forward with allegations that Nick raped her in his Santa Monica apartment back in 2002.
In December 2022, Ruth took legal action against Nick by filing a sexual battery lawsuit. She claimed that he raped her back in February 2001 when she was only 17 years old.
Previously known as “Jane Doe A.R.,” Repp made allegations against Nick, stating that he drugged and raped her on multiple occasions when she was just 15 years old back in 2003.
Nick has denied all of the allegations and filed defamation countersuits against all three accusers.
Nick’s attorney, Michael Holtz, stated in February 2023 that the accusations against Nick are part of a malicious conspiracy. He emphasized that Nick has never committed the alleged outrageous acts, and is actually a victim of a deliberate effort to tarnish his reputation.
