In the upcoming third season of Bridgerton, fans will notice the impressive glow ups of Colin and Penelope, thanks to the talented hair and makeup team.

Leading the series in the new season, Colin (played by Luke Newton) and Penelope (played by Nicola Coughlan) have undergone significant character development on screen. Erika Ökvist, the hair and makeup designer, shared insights on how the transformation of Colin and Penelope was brought to fruition.

In seasons 1 and 2, Luke's hair was quite round and his costume had a lot of frills, so his square jawline wasn't visible according to Ökvist in an interview with TVLine on April 25.

Season 3 gave a chance to showcase Newton's jawline with a new haircut and a wardrobe filled with unbuttoned shirts. Meanwhile, Coughlan's character also traded her frilly dresses for a more sophisticated look.

Ökvist pointed out that color theory was also significant in Penelope's wardrobe evolution. In the latest season, she is seen wearing more sophisticated outfits compared to previous seasons. Additionally, Penelope's hair color has also changed to a darker shade, even though Coughlan, 37, is still wearing the same wig as before.

Ökvist explained that the wardrobe for season 3 of the show looks more sensual and elegant compared to season 1. This is because the absence of yellow dresses in season 3 allows the red and orange colors to stand out more. The new wardrobe demonstrates the impact of color on overall appearance and highlights the importance of considering color when doing hair and makeup.

Season 3 of the popular TV series, inspired by Julia Quinn's book series, focuses on the friends-to-lovers story of Colin and Penelope. The actors, Newton (31) and Coughlan, have hinted at a delightful mix of romance and steamy scenes awaiting the fans.

Coughlan shared in an interview with Entertainment Tonight in June 2023 that both she and Newton had read the books before starting season 1. They found it amusing to think about the romantic scenes they would have to act out. As season 3 unfolded, they realized they would have to kiss each other. Despite the awkwardness of kissing a friend, they embraced the challenge. The show includes many elements from the books that fans have been eagerly anticipating.

Earlier this year, Coughlan praised Newton for making her feel supported while on set.

"We really supported each other and could also have fun together. I remember us laughing and joking while lying under a blanket, saying 'I should relax now,'" Coughlan shared with AP Entertainment in February. Newton chimed in, "Yeah, halfway through the day, you just unwind and think, 'I don't mind being naked.'"

At the time, Coughlan mentioned, "They asked if we wanted to get up, but we said we were fine and comfortable."

The actress later shared more details about the incident with Teen Vogue on April 24. She said, "It's actually quite funny. It's a true story that shows how comfortable we were with each other. After filming a big, intense sex scene, we just felt relieved."

The first half of Bridgerton season 3 premieres on Netflix on Thursday, May 16. The remaining episodes drop on Thursday, June 13.
