Exclusive: WrestleQuest Devs Spill the Beans on the 2 Ultimate Gaming Icons They Almost Added!

The WrestleQuest developers unveil their desired additions to the epic pro wrestling/JRPG fusion game, sharing the two video game characters they were eager to include in their ambitious creation

Highlights

WrestleQuest developers had wanted to include Street Fighter's Zangief and Starman from NES Pro Wrestling, but they are not part of the game or its upcoming DLC plans.

The developers have alluded to possible future downloadable content (DLC) and sequels for WrestleQuest, as they have kept certain ideas in reserve for potential future releases.

While Zangief and Starman are not included in the game, WrestleQuest boasts an impressive lineup of wrestling icons, including Jeff Jarrett, Junkyard Dog, Randy Savage, and Andre the Giant.

The developers of WrestleQuest expressed their desire to include characters like Zangief from Street Fighter and Starman from the 1986 NES Pro Wrestling video game in their pro wrestling/JRPG hybrid. The game allows players to battle and recruit real-world professional wrestling legends, but the developers had hoped to also feature iconic video game characters. Game Rant recently interviewed the WrestleQuest developers and wrestling legend Jeff Jarrett, who is a character in the game and serves as the Executive Producer of Wrestling. During the interview, they hinted at a significant DLC that is currently being developed for the game. They also discussed the characters they had wanted to include but were unable to secure, such as Zangief and Starman.

Mega Cat's James Deighan mentioned Zangief from Street Fighter and Starman from NES Pro Wrestling as two video game wrestling legends that he wished could have been included in the game. "Zangief is definitely one of the top choices when it comes to the fusion of wrestling and gaming. He is on our wish list. We also had Starman from the NES Pro Wrestling game on our wish list." This indicates that Zangief and Starman will not be a part of the planned WrestleQuest DLC, but the developers are already looking ahead to future possibilities.

In the same interview, the developers mentioned having reserved some ideas for potential WrestleQuest DLC or sequels. They did not disclose specific details about the content of the WrestleQuest DLC, but expressed their desire to feature controversial wrestling personality Jim Cornette.

Although WrestleQuest does not include Jim Cornette, Zangief, or Starman, the game does offer the opportunity to play with numerous other wrestling legends. These include Jeff Jarrett, Junkyard Dog, Randy Savage, and Andre the Giant. Pro wrestling enthusiasts can look forward to encountering these iconic wrestlers when WrestleQuest is released later this month.

The release date for WrestleQuest was initially set for August 8th, but it was delayed suddenly to address a critical bug that had the potential to erase players' saved data. While wrestling fans anticipating the game may have been disappointed, they can now look forward to its release on August 22nd, knowing that they won't have to fear losing their valuable progress. WrestleQuest will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
