Ubisoft's upcoming game XDefiant may not have a confirmed release date yet, but it appears to be nearing its launch. Executive producer Mark Rubin has shed light on the game's release process in a recent blog post, providing insights on the submission procedures involved in bringing a game to platforms such as PlayStation or Xbox. Rubin humorously cautions readers that the abundance of information shared might feel overwhelming, stating, "sometimes full transparency is like drinking from a firehose so hope you all are thirsty!"
Developers need to submit their game to companies such as Xbox and Sony for testing to ensure that the game functions correctly on the platform. After this process, it typically takes an additional week or two to prepare the game for release. XDefiant went through this submission process in July, but initially did not meet the necessary requirements.
Now Ubisoft is prepared to submit the game again, resulting in two possible outcomes. If the game passes without any problems, XDefiant may be released in September, specifically in the middle to end of the month. However, there is a chance that it may receive conditional approval, meaning it can only be released if it comes with a day one patch to address any remaining issues. In this case, the release date would be pushed back to early to mid October.
Rubin discusses that, unlike most games, XDefiant is not following the traditional approach when it comes to determining a release date. Instead, they are aiming to release it as soon as possible, without any specific timeframe. Rubin assures that they will keep the players updated with more information as it becomes available.
XDefiant, developed by Ubisoft, is an upcoming free-to-play shooter featuring various factions from its existing game franchises. Drawing comparisons to Call of Duty, the executive producer Mark Rubin, who is renowned for his work on the CoD franchise, is involved in the development of XDefiant. The game will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.
