Travis Scott's upcoming film, Circus Maximus, is set to premiere this weekend. Nevertheless, there is some ambiguity surrounding its production, as the poster prominently displays the A24 logo, despite the studio not making any official claim to this movie.
Scott, known for his involvement with PlayStation and Fortnite, caused a tragic riot at the 2021 Astroworld concert resulting in the deaths of ten individuals, including a 9-year-old, and leaving numerous others injured. As a consequence, Scott's once beloved avatar was taken down from Fortnite. Despite expressing condolences in a public statement, the musician has since shifted his focus towards the release of his new album titled Utopia, his upcoming movie Circus Maximus, and an upcoming concert, marking his return after the Astroworld incident. Interestingly, little information is available regarding the Circus Maximus film.
The Circus Maximus promotional poster features Scott on a motorcycle alongside the A24 logo. However, it seems that there may have been confusion or intentional publicity tactics at play, as A24 has denied involvement with the project. When reached for comment by Variety, A24 stated that the movie is not theirs. Strangely, another Scott film titled AGGRO DR1FT was recently announced to be in collaboration with A24, leading to speculation that the Circus Maximus poster may have mistakenly included the studio's name.
Talents of Circus Maximus include Valdimar Jóhannsson, known for his VFX work on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Gaspar Noé, the director of Enter The Void, and Nicolas Winding Refn, who directed Drive and Only God Forgives, among others. However, their specific roles in the project remain undisclosed to the public and media outlets. Variety reported that a 32-second trailer for the film, lacking credits or distribution information, showcases various unrelated shots of Travis in different locations or chaotic city streets. If the goal of the Circus Maximus trailer is to mirror the enigmatic marketing campaign, it effectively represents the unknown nature of the film, as the public is uninformed about its content.
The music artist, who earned $20 million from a Fortnite concert, recently tweeted that more details will be shared soon, stating, "We will talk more when I get better service lmaoooo." A24 initially signed a production deal with Scott in August 2021, but it turned out that the rumored project, Utopia, was the name of the album instead. Now, A24 claims they have no involvement with Circus Maximus, despite their logo appearing on the poster. The situation is peculiar, but it should become clearer after the premiere of Circus Maximus this weekend and as more information surfaces regarding AGGRO DR1FT.
