Sea of Thieves' Season 10 has been postponed until October in order to allow Rare additional time to craft the extensive update. This delay will lead to the integration of the standout feature originally planned for Season 11 into Season 10 instead.
Despite the delay, players can still anticipate an abundance of planned content for the pirate game in the coming years. Those eager to discover the new additions planned for the upcoming season of Sea of Thieves will need to exercise patience, as Rare has announced a delay in the release of Season 10 until October. Notably, previous updates to Rare's popular pirate game have introduced exciting Adventures and collectible loot, including the fashionable Sea of Thieves costumes inspired by Halo, which were made available earlier this year.
Originally released in 2018 for PC and Xbox One, Sea of Thieves marked a significant departure from Rare's typical single-player games. This open-world action-adventure title allows players to engage in exciting maritime adventures in a vibrant, cartoonish setting inspired by movies like Pirates of the Caribbean. Players have the option to embark on voyages and story-driven Adventures by themselves, but many are drawn to the experience of crewing a pirate ship with their friends. Earlier this year, the beloved pirate game celebrated its 5th anniversary with the release of Sea of Thieves: 2023 Edition, which included all previously-released content as well as gold, items, and cosmetics to assist players in getting started.
In a recent video, Rare announced that the launch of Sea of Thieves' tenth season has been delayed until October 19. Creative Director Mike Chapman explained that although the decision to postpone the season was difficult, it was necessary because the development progress did not meet their desired timeframe. The main reason for the delay seems to be related to challenges in implementing Season 10's prominent feature, although specific details about this feature were not disclosed.
Sea of Thieves' Season 10 delay may disappoint some players, but there is a silver lining. Rare has decided to incorporate the planned headline feature for Season 11 into Season 10 instead, as subsequent updates have been affected by the delay. Importantly, the release schedule for the Seas of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island crossover content remains unaffected, with the first Tale already available to play. Despite the wait for Season 10, it is expected to bring significant updates, and with Rare already having five years of planned content for Sea of Thieves, fans need not worry about running out of new experiences anytime soon.
Sea of Thieves is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
