Warning! This article contains spoilers for The Continental episode 2.
Summary
The second episode of The Continental hints at a potential revision to the background of a minor character from John Wick: Chapter 2, implying a retroactive change. The Continental explores and revises the criminal world of the John Wick franchise, shedding light on the origins of different characters.
Winston's assurance to Lou and Miles in Episode 2 of The Continental hints at the possibility that they had influence over The Sommelier, a character featured in John Wick 2. This revelation could potentially introduce a surprising twist to their characters in future episodes. As a prequel to the John Wick films, The Continental takes place in the 1970s and offers valuable background information to the world of John Wick, which audiences were introduced to in the first film released in 2014.
Winston's Promise To Lou & Miles Suggests They Had Control Over The Sommelier
The Continental has presented numerous opportunities for the expansion and revisions of the criminal underworld within the franchise. From the varying leaders who have managed The Continental, to the intriguing backgrounds of Winston Scott and Charon the concierge, there is no shortage of development and retcons. By the conclusion of Episode 2 of The Continental, yet another alteration may have been introduced. This particular change revolves around the characters Lou and Miles, and the pledge made to them by Winston in Episode 2. This pledge has the potential to imply an alternative origin for a character who had long been forgotten but was featured in John Wick: Chapter 2.
In episode 2 of The Continental, Winston initiates a plan to bring down Cormac and The Continental. Assembling a crew becomes crucial, and two key players are Lou and Miles, operating out of their deceased father's dojo in New York's Chinatown. Despite the loss of Frankie, a dear friend of Miles, Winston convinces both of them to come on board by offering a guarantee that once he assumes control of The Continental, all firearms and ammunition will be exclusively supplied through Lou and Miles' business.
John Wick 2's Sommelier Could Indicate A Big Twist For Lou & Miles In The Continental
: In John Wick: Chapter 2, a new character named The Sommelier is introduced at The Continental, where he supplies John with firearms and ammunition. It is possible that Lou and Miles, as revealed in the John Wick prequel, actually had authority over The Sommelier. It is even likely that they established the role, initially held it themselves, and then hired someone else to take over. As a result of this arrangement, it is plausible to believe that their family enterprise will continue to provide weapons to The Continental in the future through The Sommelier, aligning with Winston's proposal in episode 2 of The Continental. One possibility is that Lou and Miles are directly connected to The Sommelier in John Wick 2, but the nature of the character could be hinting at a twist for them in The Continental episode 3. If The Sommelier is indeed a separate entity, completely disconnected from Lou and Miles, it is possible that neither of them survive their time at The Continental. As the conflict with Cormac unfolds, they could both be killed, forcing Winston to find alternative methods of gun-running when he takes over as the owner of the hotel. Eventually, this leads him to hire a Sommelier.
Winston may have failed to uphold his promise and persisted in smuggling weapons through the armory system created by his predecessor, Cormac. This could be due to a rift between Lou, Miles, and Winston, resulting in the former two no longer being accountable for The Continental's weaponry during the events of the John Wick films. Nevertheless, The Continental episode 2 introduces an interesting modification to the Sommelier scene from John Wick: Chapter 2, which will hopefully be clarified in the concluding episode of this show.
