Summary
Loki season 2 begins right where season 1 left off, with Loki running through the TVA being chased by Mobius and other agents.
In the new footage, Loki can be seen driving a vehicle into a control room, where he then encounters Casey from the first season. As he continues his journey, he begins to glitch between various timelines. The events of season 2 of Loki occur in a realm beyond time, but their exact connection to other points in the MCU timeline remains unclear.
Screen Rant has obtained exclusive footage of the upcoming second season of Loki at Disney's D23 event. This footage provides a glimpse into where the story picks up after the events of the first season and reveals the opening scenes of season 2, set to premiere on Disney+ on October 6th.
Despite a two-year gap since the conclusion of season 1, season 2 immediately continues where it left off. The opening scenes follow the final shot of the newly unveiled Kang the Conqueror statue at the TVA. The footage shows Loki being pursued by Mobius, played by Owen Wilson, and other agents as he dashes through the TVA. Here is a breakdown of our exclusive description of the footage.
The footage starts by showcasing the Kang statue, followed by a zoom-out view that takes us through the glass window of the TVA. Inside, Loki is seen sprinting down a hallway in the TVA HQ, being pursued by Mobius and other TVA agents. Eventually, they manage to catch up to him, but Loki makes a daring escape in a vehicle, which later crashes into a control room. Emerging unhurt from the wrecked vehicle, he nonchalantly remarks, "I'm fine," just moments before the vehicle humorously plummets out of the window.
In Loki season 1, he encounters Casey played by Eugene Cordero. Surprisingly, Casey fails to recognize him, but then Loki experiences a glitch and finds himself in the future where he is finally recognized. However, just as quickly, he glitches again. As the story progresses, Loki suddenly finds himself in a room with another version of himself, but swiftly vanishes when that particular Loki turns to face him.
The footage features shots from Loki's trailers, including Hiddleston and Wilson in tuxedos, two illusory Loki variants, and Sylvie being attacked by a collapsing timeline. Through voice-over, Loki warns about his visions of the future and the imminent destruction of the universe if nothing is done to prevent it.
Loki Season 2's MCU Timeline Placement Explained
Loki and Loki season 2 exist outside of time. However, in Loki season 1, the events occur during The Avengers in 2012, when Loki escaped with the Tesseract. This means that technically, Loki season 2 takes place 11 years before Avengers: Endgame. However, due to the TVA's existence outside of space-time, it is unclear if the events align with other points in the MCU after The Avengers. In Loki season 2, Loki will travel through time, experiencing the past, present, and apocalyptic future. As a result, the timeline holds little significance. Catch the premiere of Loki season 2 on Disney+ on October 6th.
