Leaked screenshots and release date information have surfaced online for Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, a spin-off game from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio's Yakuza series. Positioned as an interquel between Yakuza 6 and the upcoming Like a Dragon 8, players will once again control Kiryu Kazuma instead of Ichiban Kasuga. Unlike the RPG gameplay of the seventh mainline game, Gaiden returns to the action brawler roots of the series. Fans can expect more news about both Gaiden and 8 at RGG Studio's upcoming Summit event in June, which may include a gameplay reveal for Gaiden as it is set to release later this year.
According to PS Deals, a website that monitors PlayStation game sales and additions to its database, Like a Dragon Gaiden's release date has been revealed, along with promotional screenshots that will be featured on the PlayStation Store's listing. The game is set to launch on November 9, 2023, and Kiryu can be seen sporting a new black suit. However, this suit isn't just for show as it comes with a new fighting style for Kiryu called the "Agent" style, in addition to his traditional "Yakuza" style. The new style focuses on speed and precision, similar to the Rush style, but with the added bonus of high-tech gadgets to match his new look.
The new city featured in Like a Dragon Gaiden is a vibrant and bustling location that offers a plethora of classic nightlife options. Despite its smaller scale, the game will still feature beloved series elements such as Karaoke, a Castle arena mode, and the return of the much-loved Pocket Circuit minigame. Fans can expect to learn more about these exciting features once the game is properly showcased at RGG Summit. Look out for Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, set to be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in 2023.
