The next Nintendo console, the Switch 2, is rumored to be more expensive than its predecessor and will come in two models, according to a known leaker.
The Switch 2 is anticipated to have a price tag of $400 for its digital-only version, while the standard edition is predicted to be $50 pricier. Speculations suggest that the release of the Switch 2 is slated for September 24, 2024, with a potential fallback release date of November 3.
The upcoming Nintendo console, tentatively named the Switch 2, is expected to be pricier than its predecessor and will come in two models, according to a reliable source. Additionally, the insider revealed that the console is slated for a later release than previously speculated.
The newly surfaced rumor originates from SoldierDelta, a Discord server member of The Snitch, a reputable insider known for credible leaks over the years. In contrast, SoldierDelta has only one leaked item in their track record, which was an early July 2023 leak revealing gameplay details about the PS5 exclusive Rise of the Ronin by Team Ninja. This leak was supported by several legitimate-looking screenshots from the game. Although SoldierDelta's credibility is not completely solid, the fact that The Snitch vouched for their first leak implies some level of industry insight in the past.
On October 6, SoldierDelta once again shared information on Discord, claiming that the Switch 2 will have a digital-only model priced at $400, while the standard edition of the console will supposedly be $50 more expensive. It is worth noting that the original Switch was launched at $300. Although the leaker mentioned that the pricing could change, they seemed to insist that the dual-model lineup is firmly established on two separate occasions. Additionally, according to SoldierDelta, Nintendo is planning to release the Switch 2 on September 24, 2024. The company has reportedly set a fallback release date of November 3, in case any complications arise, as per the same source.
The leaker further confirmed the recent speculation about the upcoming Switch 2, stating that it will incorporate AR capabilities and will not feature an OLED display. They also mentioned a codename called "NG," but clarified that it was solely given to developers and is not the official internal reference for the system by Nintendo. It is worth noting that the Switch was initially referred to as NX during its development phase, and its official name was only disclosed in October 2016, approximately five months before its release in the market.
A September release would indicate that the console would be revealed by spring 2024 at the latest, aligning with speculation that the Switch 2 will become official approximately seven years after its predecessor. It will be intriguing to discover which rumors regarding the device turn out to be accurate when Nintendo shares more details about the Switch 2.
