A reliable source has hinted at the launch window, coinciding with the revelations that Nintendo has shifted its attention to the Switch 2 after the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which is rumored to be the final major exclusive for the current system.
The Switch, despite not being known for its power, is starting to show its age. Many had hoped for a new console from Nintendo before Tears of the Kingdom played it safe and stuck with the aging hardware.
According to MoneyDJ, a Chinese media outlet, a successor to the Switch is rumored to release in 2024. PixArt Imaging, a Taiwan-based CMOS image sensor manufacturer, is reportedly expecting a launch of a "Japanese game console" in early 2024 from one of its long-time customers. It is highly likely that this customer is Nintendo, as PixArt Imaging has been supplying components to the gaming giant since 2006 and was rumored to be involved in the production of the IR camera in the Nintendo Switch's Joy-Con even before the console was announced.
PixArt Imaging's belief that a Japanese gaming console will be released in early 2024 aligns with recent rumors about the Switch 2. A report from May mentioned that the new console is not expected to be launched before spring 2024. If we take these rumors as true, it suggests that Nintendo may choose to unveil the Switch 2 in late March, as there is little overlap between the "early 2024" and "spring 2024" timeframes.
Console manufacturers have typically chosen the holiday season for unveiling new hardware, but the Switch defied this trend by releasing in March 2017. Therefore, it is not farfetched to consider the possibility of the Switch 2 debuting around the seventh anniversary of its predecessor.
Notably, there have been other recent signs suggesting that Nintendo may soon introduce new gaming hardware. In mid-July, a leaked Microsoft document claimed that the Switch 2 is slated for a 2024 release.
