Call of Duty has officially announced that the 2023 installment of the game will be titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. This game is set to be released in November. It is noteworthy that this is the first time in the series that two consecutive games from the same subseries are being released. Last year, Modern Warfare 2, the sequel to the 2019 reboot of Modern Warfare, was released. Modern Warfare 3 was initially planned as downloadable content (DLC) for Modern Warfare 2 to bridge the gap until the next Call of Duty title by Treyarch in 2024. However, it grew into a full release and became Modern Warfare 3.

Following the confirmation of a full game release for 2023, Call of Duty informed fans that all the weapons, operators, and bundles from Modern Warfare 2 will carry over into the new game. A leaked photo on a Monster Energy package showed the new logo of Modern Warfare 3 and what appeared to be the cover art featuring the popular character, Captain Price. Call of Duty later confirmed that the 2023 game will be teased and revealed during the Season 5 of Modern Warfare 2. In a lighthearted response to the leak, Call of Duty recreated the Captain Price cover art with a humorous stick figure.

After weeks of intense speculation, fans who have been anticipating the release of Modern Warfare 3 have finally been proven right. Call of Duty took to Twitter to release a brief 40-second teaser video, confirming that this year's installment of the game will indeed be Modern Warfare 3. Furthermore, they have also set November 10 as the official release date for this highly anticipated third installment, which may potentially mark the end of the Modern Warfare reboot series.

Call of Duty seems to be drawing upon the success of last year's Modern Warfare 2 in the introduction of Modern Warfare 3. The teaser video starts off with the iconic green spikes, accompanied by sounds from the interior of a commercial airplane, picking up where Modern Warfare 2 left off with the inclusion of the franchise's notorious villain, Makarov. The sounds of the plane's seatbelt and engine create an immersive atmosphere, while the buzzing of a cellphone can be heard. As the green lines on the screen gradually turn red, the visuals take on a refreshing change for this long-standing subseries. Eventually, the voices of Task Force 141 can be heard, discussing themes such as eliminating enemies and never leaving them alive, as Captain Price's face becomes visible, followed by what appears to be Makarov's face.

Unfortunately, the platforms for Modern Warfare 3 have not been officially confirmed yet. However, it is highly likely that the game will be available for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. The fact that Modern Warfare 3 is being released relatively quickly has some fans concerned about the level of innovation in the game, as many weapons and cosmetics are expected to carry over from Modern Warfare 2.
