David Corenswet has been chosen to play Superman in James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, prompting one of the other two frontrunners to react on Twitter. This brings DC Universe one step closer to coming to life, with Gunn and Peter Safran currently working on one of DC Studios' biggest projects, Superman: Legacy. Set to be released in 2025, the film will mark the beginning of the new DC Universe and will focus on a younger version of Superman.
In recent weeks, screen tests have been held to cast the roles of Lois Lane and Clark Kent in Superman: Legacy. Corenswet emerged as the final choice for the role of Superman, edging out Tom Brittney and Nicholas Hoult. Upon hearing the news of Corenswet's official casting, Brittney took to Twitter to share a concise but heartfelt response.
Which Characters Are James Gunn Casting Next For Superman: Legacy?
Brittney and Hoult were said to have completed screentests alongside Emma Mackey in the previous week. However, ultimately, Corenswet and Brosnahan emerged victorious, securing the roles of Superman and Lois. As of the time this story was published, Hoult has not made any statements regarding his audition process for Superman: Legacy.Although Superman: Legacy has already cast its Man of Steel and Lois Lane, the upcoming reboot is continuing its search for additional roles. While the identity of the film's primary antagonist has yet to be officially confirmed, it has been reported that Lex Luthor will make an appearance. Nicholas Hoult is said to be a potential candidate for the role, although it is currently unclear if he is still being considered. In addition to Hoult, Alexander and Bill Skarsgård have also been rumored to be in contention for the part. However, it remains to be seen if DC Studios is exploring other options for the iconic DC villain.

Jimmy Olsen, an iconic member of the Daily Planet staff, is being considered for a role in Superman: Legacy. However, no actors have been disclosed as potential candidates for the role. Additionally, The Authority, a group of characters, is rumored to be making their debut in the film, possibly setting the stage for their own standalone movie, which was announced earlier this year as part of Chapter 1, titled "Gods and Monsters."
It is expected that other Superman characters will also be introduced in this film. However, the casting process for Superman: Legacy may be delayed due to the possibility of the SAG-AFTRA strike. This means that news of additional actors joining the project may not be revealed for some time. Nonetheless, director Gunn aims to have the cast finalized for Superman: Legacy in time for production to begin in 2024, regardless of how the rest of 2023 unfolds.
