Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's LEGO animator, Preston Muntanga, has returned to create animated bloopers for the film.
In January, Muntanga utilized LEGO animation in Blender to recreate the second trailer of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The video garnered significant praise and caught the attention of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creators of Across the Spider-Verse, as well as the writers and directors of The Lego Movie. Lord and Miller reached out to Muntanga to inquire if he could animate the LEGO scenes for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Muntanga gladly accepted the opportunity and spent his spring break animating the scenes for them.
Muntanga recently shared an engaging YouTube video where he cleverly transformed the behind-the-scenes bloopers from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse into an animated LEGO creation. In this amazing video, we get to see Shameik Moore, Hailey Steinfeld, Issa Rae, and Daniel Kaluuya represented by LEGO mini figures, embodying their beloved Spider-Verse characters. Notably, the video even includes a surprising moment where LEGO Spider-Woman drops an F-bomb.
Throughout the video, we are treated to a delightful blend of scenes featuring the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse characters either in the recording booth or on a film set. Additionally, the clip comically portrays Lord and Miller as LEGO mini figures, while humorously mocking The Spot. It's worth mentioning that the video begins by stating that this is only the first volume of the animated LEGO bloopers, with more to come in the near future.
Content
This video evokes a strong nostalgic feeling, similar to animated movies that featured blooper reels on their DVDs. Pixar used to include them frequently, and although most were scripted, they were still enjoyable. Moreover, the attention to detail in these shots is captivating, such as Muntanga's design of Spider-Punk's water bottle and the characters' ability to rotate their heads completely. These unique details set Muntanga's videos apart.
Remarkably, Muntanga, at only 14 years old, exhibits incredible talent and produces astounding work. With a promising future ahead of him, fans eagerly anticipate more of his creations in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse or perhaps in another LEGO movie. In the meantime, fans can explore his YouTube and Twitter accounts, where he has skillfully recreated beloved scenes from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and moments from other popular franchises such as Mario, Star Wars, Shrek, and Breaking Bad.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is now playing in theaters.
