Following its success, The Witcher 2 was released a few years later, and it paved the way for The Witcher 3, which is still widely regarded as one of the greatest video games of all time.

The overwhelming triumph of The Witcher 3 propelled CD Projekt Red to great heights, leading them to ambitiously embark on their next project, Cyberpunk 2077. Although Cyberpunk 2077 fell short of expectations upon its initial release, CD Projekt Red has been diligently working over the past two and a half years to rectify their mistakes. Now, the future looks promising for the Polish developer, as they are currently working on three Witcher games.

The Next Witcher - 'Polaris'

In March 2022, CD Projekt Red announced several video game projects, all reportedly still in progress. Alongside a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 and a completely new intellectual property, CD Projekt Red unveiled three Witcher titles, each with appealing nicknames. The most anticipated of the three, known as Project Polaris, is set to be the next installment in The Witcher series.

Despite limited information about Project Polaris, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that it will kick off a new trilogy within The Witcher series and serve as a direct continuation of the story from The Witcher 3. Beyond this confirmation, no details have been provided regarding characters, locations, time periods, or plot, leading fans to create their own theories. While some fans hope for the return of Geralt as the main protagonist in Project Polaris, others speculate that Ciri may take on the leading role, with Geralt making occasional appearances for good measure.

This ambitious remake aims to transform the original Witcher's more open-ended areas into a vast cohesive open-world experience. Project Sirius, developed by The Molasses Flood, is rumored to be a multiplayer Witcher game. While the specifics of its multiplayer gameplay remain unknown, the game will reportedly offer a single-player story mode and a range of solo-friendly activities. This game may be the final entry in the Witcher series for fans to anticipate. Earlier this year, CD Projekt Red restarted development from scratch, resulting in an impairment charge to discard existing assets. However, in May, CD Projekt Red confirmed that Project Sirius is now back on track, progressing with a new framework for the Witcher title.
