CD Projekt Red has recently announced updated PC system requirements for Cyberpunk 2077 in anticipation of its upcoming DLC release, Phantom Liberty. These new requirements represent an increase in comparison to the previously confirmed specifications. As CD Projekt Red has stated, this change is an important part of the game improvement process, which is necessary as Cyberpunk 2077 continues to receive new and enhanced features. Fans and early players of the game are aware of its initial performance issues on PC, which cannot solely be attributed to the PC requirements. However, it is possible that CD Projekt Red had originally set its targets for PC hardware that were not optimal for the game. This is exemplified by the minimum requirements, which included an Intel Core i5-3570K, 8GB of RAM, a GTX 970 with 3GB of VRAM, and a 70GB HDD.
The updated PC requirements for Cyberpunk 2077 represent a significant advancement from the previous specifications. The minimum requirements still cater to 1080p resolution, but now explicitly target 30fps. The new minimum specs demand an i7-6700/Ryzen 5 1600 CPU, a GeForce GTX 1060 GB/Radeon RX 580 8GB/Arc A380, 12GB of RAM, and a minimum of 70GB of space on an SSD drive. It's worth noting that hard drives are no longer recommended.
For those who want to play the game on Ultra settings, the requirements have also increased. To achieve a 60fps experience at 2160p resolution with Ultra settings, players are recommended to have a Core i9-12900/Ryzen 9 7900X CPU, GeForce RTX 3080/Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU, 12 GB of VRAM, 20 GB of RAM, and an NVMe storage device. However, if players want the ultimate Cyberpunk 2077 experience, they'll need to meet the RT Overdrive Cyberpunk 2077 recommendations, which require a GeForce RTX 4080 GPU, 16 GB of VRAM, and 24 GB of RAM.
The recommended system requirements for Cyberpunk 2077 have been updated according to CD Projekt Red's internal testing. These new specifications are not strict minimums and the game should still run on hardware that meets the previous requirements, although performance may vary. The updated requirements will come into effect when the game's next update is released, which is expected to be at least 90 days away. These changes will apply to both the base game and the upcoming Phantom Liberty expansion. The goal of these changes is to provide users with a better understanding of what kind of performance they can expect from the game, and hopefully, CD Projekt Red will deliver on those expectations.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
