On Friday, January 12, 2024, Netflix released a new English-dubbed trailer for the Pokémon Horizons anime series, announcing that the series will premiere on the platform in late Winter 2024. This news comes after a delay from the original February 23, 2024 release date.
Although the full list of English voice actors for Pokémon Horizons was not included in this announcement, it is expected to be revealed in the upcoming weeks. The English-dubbed trailer does introduce the English voices of Liko and Roy, the new dual protagonists for the series, as well as other characters.
Pokémon Horizons anime’s English-dubbed version premieres on Netflix on Thursday, March 7, 2024
The Pokémon Horizons anime series made its debut in Japan during the Spring 2023 broadcast season and has been a huge hit with domestic audiences. Although its popularity was not unexpected, the series being the first in the franchise without Ash Ketchum as the protagonist raised questions about its potential for success.
The latest
The English-dubbed trailer for the Pokémon Horizons anime has officially announced its Netflix premiere date as March 7, 2024, which is only a slight delay from the original February 23 release. This delay may be due to production issues, which could also explain the unavailability of the cast list for the English-dubbed version at this time.
The series introduces new dual protagonists Roy and Liko, replacing Ash Ketchum as the franchise's main character for the first time. Although Ash is not part of the series, new characters Friede and Captain Pikachu, a professor and Pokémon duo, join forces with Liko and Roy to ensure that the franchise's iconic yellow mascot is still well-represented in the show.
The latest anime introduces Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly, the starter Pokémon from the ninth-generation games, Pokémon Violet and Pokémon Scarlet. Fans can also look forward to the appearance of the Shiny form of the Legendary Pokémon Rayquaza, originally from the third-generation games.
Saori Den is in charge of directing the anime series, while Daiki Tomiyasu is the creative director. Dai Sato oversees the series scripts, and Tetsuo Yajima is the action director. Rei Yamazaki is the character designer, with Kyoko Ito as the sub-character designer. Masafumi Mima serves as the sound director, and Conisch composes the music.
The series debuted in Japan in April 2023 with a special one-hour first episode. The anime airs regularly on Fridays at 6:55 PM Japanese Standard Time or 4:55 AM Eastern Daylight Time. The second arc of the story, "The Brilliance of Terapagos," began on October 27th with the 29th episode overall.
Be sure to keep up with all anime, manga, film, and live-action news as 2024 progresses.
Editor's P/S
As a passionate Pokémon fan, I am thrilled about the upcoming English premiere of the Pokémon Horizons anime series on Netflix. The release of the English-dubbed trailer has only heightened my excitement, and I can't wait to see the new adventures of Liko and Roy, the dual protagonists who will replace Ash Ketchum for the first time in the franchise's history. The introduction of new characters like Friede and Captain Pikachu adds a fresh dynamic to the show, while the inclusion of the ninth-generation starter Pokémon and the Shiny form of Rayquaza promises exciting battles and encounters.
The delay in the release date from February 23 to March 7 is a bit disappointing, but I understand that production issues can arise. I hope that the wait will be worth it and that the English dub will live up to the high standards set by previous Pokémon anime series. The involvement of talented individuals like Saori Den, Daiki Tomiyasu, Dai Sato, and Tetsuo Yajima in the production team gives me confidence that Pokémon Horizons will be a visually stunning and well-crafted anime. I eagerly anticipate the release of more information, including the full English voice cast list, and the countdown to the premiere date has officially begun!
