Pokémon Horizons continues its exploration of the Paldea region, expanding upon what players have seen in the Scarlet and Violet video games with the introduction of a new Titan Pokémon.
After encountering gym leader Brassius, who had spotted the Black Rayquaza that Liko and Roy were in pursuit of, the duo sets off to the forest where Brassius claimed to have seen it, hoping to uncover clues. However, upon arrival, they are met with the devastating aftermath of a wildfire that has left the forest in ruins. The possibility of crucial clues being destroyed weighs heavily on their minds. As Liko and Roy survey the scene, they find themselves developing empathy for the Pokémon who have been displaced by the fire. Their sincere efforts to assist the affected Pokémon attract the attention of the forest's guardian, a colossal Arboliva of Titan proportions. Armed with only their Sprigatito and Fuecoco, the two young trainers now face the daunting task of confronting what is undoubtedly the largest Pokémon they have ever encountered.
A Pokémon Anime Original Titan
The introduction of a new Titan shortly after their arrival in Paldea implies that Pokémon Horizons is willing to incorporate original content if it enhances the overall narrative of the story. This is a positive development because it demonstrates that the series prioritizes its own storytelling rather than adhering strictly to the games. Even if this Titan Arboliva never appears in Scarlet and Violet, its mere existence is intriguing. There is no reason why an Arboliva couldn't become a Titan; it simply wasn't included in the games' setting. Thematically, Arboliva is a better fit for the episode than any of the game-based Titans, so why not embrace it?
Fortunately, Liko and Roy successfully persuaded the Titan Arboliva that their intentions were to assist, sparing them from a full-blown confrontation. Interestingly, this Titan Arboliva possesses another enigmatic and age-old Poké Ball, suggesting that there may be further revelations in the forthcoming episodes. Regardless, the inclusion of anime-exclusive Pokémon forms in Pokémon Horizons is a refreshing deviation, and it is hoped that this trend persists, even if they deviate from Scarlet and Violet.
