Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova's love has endured for 21 years, all thanks to the bond they developed while working on the music video for his song "Escape." According to the 48-year-old musician, the video had a profound impact on both of their lives, and despite coming from different worlds (he from music, she from sports), they were able to understand and connect with each other.
In 2001, Iglesias cast the tennis champion, who is now 42, as his onscreen love interest in the music video for "Escape". After the cameras stopped rolling, Iglesias and Kournikova continued to deepen their connection, gradually getting to know each other and growing stronger together. They shared a mutual understanding of each other's worlds, which greatly contributed to their relationship.
Iglesias had previously confessed during an episode of MTV's Making the Video back in 2001 that he had never crossed paths with Kournikova before her appearance in his music video. However, he eagerly expressed his admiration for her, stating that he was a devoted admirer. "I'm certain that numerous guys are dying to meet her, and I'm one of them," he enthusiastically proclaimed. "She possesses absolute beauty, incredible talent, and she's an exceptional tennis player. I have no doubt that she will shine in the video."
Despite going public with their romance in August 2002, Iglesias and Kournikova successfully maintained a relatively private relationship.
"It's actually quite manageable to stay out of the public eye," Iglesias remarked during an interview with Australia's Today Tonight in November 2011. "Maintaining a good sense of humor helps. There have been absurd rumors circulating, claiming that I've been married numerous times and have children scattered across the globe... There's even talk of me having twins in Perth, Australia. It's all quite comical, really."
In December 2017, Iglesias and Kournikova added to their family with the arrival of twins Nicholas and Lucy. Their youngest daughter, Mary, came into the world in February 2020.
"When I collect them from school and they are having a tough time or one of them is upset or they are arguing, we ask, 'Hey guys, what's your favorite song?' And then one of them starts singing my song 'I Like It,' and then they all join in, and it's absolutely adorable," Iglesias shared with People. He added that his children are avid fans of his music collection. "I am just savoring the present moment. Every single day is a joy."
However, when Iglesias embarks on tours, he profoundly misses his children Nicholas and Lucy, aged 5, and Mary, aged 3. "I long for them greatly," he confessed to the magazine. "I don't think they are quite old enough to accompany me on the road just yet."
