Emma Stone Clarifies Reaction to Jimmy Kimmel's Oscars Joke

Emma Stone addresses the misunderstanding surrounding her response to Jimmy Kimmel's Oscars joke, putting an end to speculations.

Emma Stone is clarifying her response to a joke made by host Jimmy Kimmel at this year's Oscars. Back in March, a video of Stone's reaction to Kimmel's joke spread widely on social media. Many people believed, after trying to read her lips, that Stone had called Kimmel a rude name.

Stone was actually unaware that this was a thing.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter published on Wednesday, she clarified, "I didn't call him a p—k. I wasn't upset with him at all. I'll have to look that up."

During the Oscars telecast, a montage featuring scenes from the 10 best picture-nominated films was shown. After the clip from "Poor Things" was aired, Kimmel made a joke about it being the only parts suitable for TV due to the film's R-rating, which includes graphic and sexual content.

Following the joke, the camera focused on Emma Stone for her reaction. She was seen mouthing something to her husband Dave McCary, creating a viral moment on social media.

Stone's "Curse" co-star Nathan Fielder shared with the Hollywood Reporter that Stone has a great sense of humor. He mentioned that she is always ready for a joke. Stone herself confirmed this by saying, "I’m near-unoffendable."

This year, the star won her second Oscar for her role as Bella Baxter in the movie "Poor Things," directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. She had previously won an Oscar for her performance in the film "La La Land."

At this year's Academy Awards, "Poor Things" received 11 nominations and took home four Oscars.

Lanthimos and Stone previously worked together on 2018’s “The Favourite” prior to “Poor Things,” and are teaming back up for “Kinds of Kindness,” coming out on June 21.

Emma Stone's clarification regarding her reaction at the Oscars is a testament to her character. Despite the widespread speculation and scrutiny, she maintained her composure and clarified the situation with grace. Her comment, "I'll have to look that up," demonstrates her willingness to acknowledge and address the issue, even if she was unaware of it at the time.

Stone's reputation as a good-natured and unoffendable person adds context to her response. Her ability to laugh at herself and embrace humor is admirable, especially in the face of public criticism.
