Eminem has been open about his struggles with addiction, especially after a near-fatal overdose in 2007. His main addictions were sleeping pills and Vicodin, and he admitted to taking up to 20 pills a day at one point.
Despite keeping a low profile on social media about his recovery journey, Eminem did share a photo on Instagram in April 2019. The picture showed him holding an Alcoholics Anonymous coin on the 11th anniversary of his sobriety, with the caption "11 years — still not afraid."
Eminem has been clean since April 20, 2008. In 2009, he dropped his album Relapse, which delved into the themes of drug recovery and setbacks. This was his first album after Encore in 2004.

Eminem shared his experience of getting sober and feeling happy in a September 2022 episode of Rosenberg's "Paul Pod" podcast. He mentioned that after getting rid of all the negativity from his system, everything felt new and exciting to him again. He expressed that recording "Relapse" was the first time in a long while that he had fun in the studio.
He continued, “It felt like rediscovering the joy of making music and relearning how to rap. Do you remember that whole process? It took a while for my brain to get back into the groove.”
In February 2024, Eminem announced his involvement in co-producing a documentary titled Stans. The documentary is described as a revealing and personal exploration into the world of super fandom, told from the perspective of Eminem himself and his dedicated fans.
Eminem recently took to X (formerly known as Twitter) on April 10 to reach out to his biggest fans of Slim Shady. He is searching for devoted Stans to be part of a documentary that he and Shady Films are producing. The term "stan" originates from the song of the same name on Eminem's 2000 album, The Marshall Mathers LP.
