The new Marvel series Echo, now available on Disney+ and Hulu, follows the story of Maya Lopez, a villain turned antihero. Fans are wondering where in the MCU timeline this series takes place.
Maya Lopez, played by Alaqua Cox, was initially introduced as the leader of the Tracksuit Mafia in 2021's Hawkeye. Under the command of Kingpin, played by Vincent D'Onofrio, she sought retribution for her father's death. In the finale, Maya shot Fisk in the face upon uncovering his role in her father's murder.
After the events, Echo is on the run and is compelled to go back to her home in Oklahoma. There, she faces Kingpin's leftover forces and comes to terms with her Native American heritage. As the MCU expands and its storylines become more intertwined, it can be difficult to keep track of its timeline. But don't worry, we're here to help.
Where Echo fits in the MCU timeline
Echo primarily takes place in May 2025, five months after the events of Hawkeye.
The show contains multiple flashbacks. Episode 1 primarily serves as a recap, delving into Echo's backstory and the key events of Hawkeye, which occurred during Christmas 2024.
It's important to note that the MCU's timeline initially mirrored real life until the Blip in Avengers: Endgame, which catapulted the franchise five years into the future. Due to various reasons, including a real-world event, the Marvel universe has now caught up to its near future.
MCU chronological timeline
Having said that, pinpointing Loki's exact temporal placement is nearly impossible, but Echo's timeline is much clearer: all events between Endgame and Eternals took place in 2023, whereas No Way Home to Hawkeye occurred in 2024, placing Echo firmly in 2025.

For instance, Moon Knight is set to take place after Hawkeye, and while She-Hulk's story is rumored to wrap up in the summer of 2024, Echo's setting puts it right in the middle of the year.

As an enthusiastic fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I am thrilled to see the expansion of the franchise with the new series, Echo. The character of Maya Lopez, introduced in Hawkeye, has a captivating backstory and her journey of self-discovery and redemption is both compelling and relatable. The series delves into her Native American heritage and explores the complexities of her relationships, adding depth and richness to the MCU.
The placement of Echo in the MCU timeline, set primarily in May 2025, allows for interesting connections and references to previous events. The flashbacks to the events of Hawkeye provide context and enhance the emotional impact of Maya's journey.
