Barbara revealed in a joint interview with W Magazine that she didn't message Dylan for six months after he slid into her DMs in August 2017 because she wasn't in a good mindset at the time and was unsure if their connection could lead to something more.

They first crossed paths at a Harper's Bazaar event and hit it off right away, bonding over their shared sense of humor. As they got to know each other better, their connection deepened and Palvin wasted no time in flying out to visit Sprouse in China just a few months later.

During a six-month shoot in China, Dylan's manager asked if there was anything he wished he had wrapped up before leaving. During a joint interview with Sprouse for W Magazine in February 2019, the Hungarian model admitted that she wasn't in the best frame of mind when the Disney Channel alum slid into her DMs in August 2017. Despite feeling like there could be something more between them, she didn't message him for six months. The two had originally met at a Harper's Bazaar party earlier that year where they hit it off, with Sprouse recalling their chemistry in a September 2018 interview with Page Six.

After a slow start, their relationship picked up pace as they began talking to each other regularly. Within a few months, Palvin made a bold move and flew to China to visit Dylan, who was filming a movie there for six months. Dylan revealed that during this time, his manager asked him if there was anything he wished he had sorted out before leaving. For the first time in six months, Barbara came to his mind and he regretted not being able to take her out on a date. It was at this exact moment that Barbara texted him for the first time in six months.

In January 2019, the model and actor decided to take their relationship to the next level by moving in together in Brooklyn. The couple shared a sweet Instagram selfie in their new home, with the caption "Two worms officially in the big apple," showcasing their excitement and love for each other. Throughout their relationship, Sprouse and Palvin have continuously shown support for each other's professional achievements. The couple took to social media and shared the news of their engagement. They also opened up about it in an interview with V Magazine, where Palvin shared an Instagram video of their joint cover shoot, captioned with “With the power invested in V I am a Sprouse to be ‍️”. Sprouse disclosed that he popped the question in September 2022 and the duo plans to tie the knot in Hungary. Sprouse expressed his excitement for the future but admitted feeling nervous about the event, particularly the first dance. “For me, at least, marriage is a promise of kind of loving you endlessly and being your partner," he explained to the magazine.

Palvin shared that the engagement was a more anxiety-inducing experience for her than the actual concept of marriage. She explained that while a man has the opportunity to prepare for a proposal, Dylan had been holding onto the ring for seven months before popping the question. On the other hand, she was caught off guard and had to make the decision in the moment. Despite knowing from the start of their relationship that she wanted to marry him, it was still a significant choice to make.
