Developer Techland has released PC version update 1.12.2 for its popular open-world zombie action RPG, Dying Light 2. The studio plans to release the update for console versions in the coming weeks.

Dying Light 2, which launched last year, immerses players in a post-apocalyptic city overrun by zombies called Villedor. As the protagonist Aiden, players navigate the city using parkour and undertake missions to find his sister Mia. The game delves into the conflict between three factions: the militaristic Peacekeepers, freedom-loving Survivors, and violent Renegades. Reviews for Dying Light 2 were mixed, with praise given to the writing and expansive world, but criticism directed at the lackluster stealth mechanics and less menacing nighttime zombie encounters compared to its predecessor. The PC and Series X/S versions have a Metacritic score of 77, while the PS5 version scores 76.

Dying Light 2's Update 1.12.2 is a small hotfix that primarily focuses on resolving bugs. In addition, it introduces a new DL Point pack, containing 100 points, to the in-game store. Furthermore, the company has updated the end-user license agreement for Dying Light 2 mods. The revised rules clearly state that players are allowed to create, utilize, and distribute mods for Dying Light 2 as long as they adhere to Techland's Mod Policy. This policy requires mods to be distributed exclusively through Techland's approved platform. Additionally, it is mentioned that while Techland does not lay claim to ownership of Dying Light 2 mods, creating mods grants Techland a license to utilize them in any way the company deems fit.

The patch notes for Update 1.12.2 outline eight key fixes, six of which apply universally across all platforms. These fixes address issues such as stuttering encountered by Dying Light 2 players when accessing the City Alignment menu or examining Tools in the Invert. Techland has also resolved stuttering problems and removed unwanted pop-up notifications linked to adjusting Gamma settings. Additionally, the freezing issue that occurred on the "Community Maps" menu has been resolved. Furthermore, a graphical glitch related to mod installation on the Mercenary Machete has been fixed. Lastly, Techland has eliminated an exploit where players were able to obtain a duplicate inhibitor after defeating a GRE Anomaly in Dying Light 2's cooperative mode.

The final two fixes mentioned specifically pertain to the PS4 and PS4 Pro versions of Dying Light 2, addressing performance and stability concerns. One of the fixes resolves a crashing issue experienced by players when loading a previous save. The other fix addresses performance problems encountered when skipping the game's prologue from the Pause Menu. Dying Light 2 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with a Switch version currently in progress.
