Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson weighs up running for president
In his recent conversation with Jimmy Fallon, Johnson discussed being approached by political negotiators following the release of a poll that suggested his potential as a formidable contender for the presidency.
"The talk of running for president has been floating around for a while now, and it continues to amaze me. It was truly unbelievable. They flew in from DC, we had a meeting, and the poll showed that nearly 50% of Americans would back my presidential campaign. It was absolutely mind-boggling," he exclaimed.
Will he do it? "Definitely in the future," he assured Fallon, explaining that his current focus lies elsewhere. "Being a proud father to my 22-year-old daughter has been a journey of growth for both of us. During that time, I was fully dedicated to my wrestling career and was frequently away.
I understand the feeling of having a demanding job that pulls me away from fatherhood. But now, with my younger children aged seven and five, my priority is being a devoted dad. That's what matters most to me."
Johnson has been dropping hints about entering politics since 2016. In an interview with GQ, he expressed his fascination with the idea of being a governor or even a president. Furthermore, he mentioned to Variety that he was seriously contemplating a run for presidency in 2024.
Although he hasn't been as vocal about it lately, Johnson has previously stated that he wanted to prioritize being a more involved parent to his youngest children. However, during a recent conversation with Trevor Noah, he admitted that if the public expressed a desire for him to pursue a political career, he would definitely take it into consideration.
Johnson also confirmed he’ll next be shooting the live-action Moana remake, which you can read more about here.
