Donald Trump submits $92 million bond in E. Jean Carroll defamation lawsuit

Former President Donald Trump has posted a $91.63 million bond as he appeals the judgment against him in the E. Jean Carroll defamation case.

The notice of Trump’s bond and appeal was filed with the federal court in New York on Friday.

In January, Carroll was awarded $83.3 million in damages by a federal jury. This was due to Trump's defamatory statements denying he raped her, claiming she wasn't his type, and accusing her of fabricating the allegation to promote her book.

Trump is also required to provide an additional $454 million by March 25 for the New York attorney general's civil fraud case.

In Carroll’s case, Trump believes that the jury award is too high and should be lowered. Carroll's lawyers argued during the trial that Trump should pay a significant amount in damages to deter his defamatory actions.
