Director of Anyone But You Accepts Responsibility for 'Deceptive' Trailer

Anyone But You director shoulders responsibility for a misleading teaser trailer, leaving fans disappointed Sydney Sweeney's new film is at the center of the controversy as the director takes fault for the inaccurate representation

The release of Sydney Sweeney's latest film, "Anyone But You," has caused disappointment among fans due to a misleading trailer. Responsibility for this falls on the director, who is taking the blame for the negative reception.

The issue with the trailer for the new romantic comedy film, Anyone But You, was not that it failed to capture audiences' attention, but rather that it attracted them for the wrong reasons. The film's director recently took full responsibility for the misleading first teaser trailer, following complaints from fans about the new full-length trailer.

Anyone But You director takes fault for misleading teaser trailer

Taking complete ownership, co-writer and director Will Gluck acknowledges that the initial teaser trailer of the film may have inadvertently misled fans as they viewed the subsequent full-length trailer.

“I take full responsibility for the underwhelming response to the teaser. It was my mistake to try and be too clever with it. Anyone But You is meant to be a hilarious comedy, but if you only saw that teaser, you might have thought it was a suspenseful thriller. I wanted to create intrigue and curiosity, but I went about it the wrong way."

The initial teaser for Anyone But You featured Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell engaging in sensual interactions accompanied by the haunting melody of WizTheMc's "Death of Me," which unintentionally added a more sinister vibe to the trailer.

Nevertheless, in the recently unveiled extended trailer, Powell and Sweeney's shared experiences are accompanied by Olivia Rodrigo's lively track "Bad Idea Right?", infusing the film with a cheery and exhilarating atmosphere that contradicts the essence conveyed in the teaser trailer.

"People leaned in, expecting to dislike it, but that's not what the movie is about," Gluck clarified. "The film is an edgy R-rated comedy with elements of romance and farce."

"It features extravagant musical numbers and wish fulfillment. You'll be transported to sunny Australia in the middle of winter in the West when you watch the trailer. So forget about that teaser, it's time for a fresh start."

As a passionate fan of Sydney Sweeney, I was eagerly anticipating the release of her new film, "Anyone But You." However, my excitement quickly turned to disappointment when I saw the misleading trailer. The trailer portrayed the film as a suspenseful thriller, with haunting music and sensual interactions between the two main characters. However, the full-length trailer revealed that the film is actually a romantic comedy, with a much lighter and more upbeat tone.

I understand that the director was trying to create intrigue and curiosity with the teaser trailer, but I think he went about it the wrong way. The trailer was so misleading that it gave fans the wrong impression of the film. I was expecting a dark and suspenseful thriller, but instead, I got a light and fluffy romantic comedy. I was disappointed and felt like I had been misled.

I appreciate that the director has taken responsibility for the misleading trailer and has apologized to fans. I hope that he will be more careful in the future when creating trailers for his films. I am still a fan of Sydney Sweeney and will be supporting her new film, but I hope that the next trailer is more accurate and representative of the film.
