In a game like Diablo 4, where players carry vast amounts of gold in their pockets, it may seem unlikely that anything could be considered a waste. However, the prices of certain items in the game make it necessary for players to be cautious with their spending.
As characters progress into the endgame or tackle the challenging world levels of Tier III and IV, there are certain items that justify their high price. It becomes crucial for players to make wise decisions about what to salvage and what to sell. In the meantime, it is advisable to refrain from spending gold on certain things that offer little value, and instead save up for more worthwhile investments.
7 The "Gold Well Spent" Quest
The quest offered by NPC Meros in Menestad involves retrieving a cache of gems stolen by a former employee named Luskas. Initially, the quest seems enticing as it suggests that the reward will include at least a portion of the gem cache. However, upon completion, the player receives only a monetary reward and XP. This raises the question of why the player is not rewarded with the actual bag of gems, which would have been more valuable and useful instead of being compensated in gold.
6 Upgrades To Everything
Upgrading various items, including gemstones, elixirs, and gear, is possible by utilizing specific materials and paying a vendor with gold. Initially, this feature may seem appealing and practical. However, it is advisable to exercise caution and not squander excessive amounts of gold before realizing that the game offers numerous alternative and superior ways to spend money.
While there are a few select items that are genuinely worth the investment of time, effort, and materials, these become more relevant later in the game and hold little value for lower-level characters. Therefore, it is more prudent for beginners to accumulate and stockpile these materials, ensuring they are readily available for more worthwhile upgrades that do not deplete their gold reserves unnecessarily.
5 Lorath's Polearm
In order to progress with the main storyline, the protagonist is forced to view this expenditure as an investment, despite not knowing Lothar very well at this point. Although it may seem unfair, the protagonist is compelled to spend money on Lothar, as the old Horardrim is engaging in deceptive tactics.
Shortly after completing the tutorial and lacking sufficient gold to spare, Lorath decides to venture west but requires his polearm. To retrieve it, he instructs the hero to visit a Merchant in Kyovashad. However, Lorath fails to mention that obtaining the polearm will come at a cost of 20 gold. Fortunately, the compassionate merchant also presents the hero with an ancient amulet that holds significant importance to the weathered hermit. Thankfully, no additional gold is required for this item.
4 Repairs To Everything
In this RPG, it is not necessary to have everything in perfect condition before selling, trading, or salvaging. Many Diablo 4 players choose not to repair anything until they reach higher levels. Instead, they focus on collecting gold from sales or materials from salvage, while constantly upgrading their gear with new equipment.
This approach may seem odd initially, but it is because until the player obtains Rare or Legendary items, there is little worth keeping for the long term. It would be a waste of resources and gold to fix them now, so it is better to save them for later.
3 Any Gear From The City Vendors
Sometimes, there may be exceptions to the rule when it comes to the quality of items that suit a character's specific attributes. Occasionally, vendors located in remote and difficult-to-access areas outside the city may offer items of Rare or Legendary quality that are truly valuable despite their high price.
Nevertheless, it is important to note that the majority of items sold by vendors within the cities are not worth the gold spent on them. However, if a player is in search of a particular transmog or rare material and needs to purchase and salvage these items, it may be a worthwhile investment.
2 More Empty Transmog Slots
The number of these that a player truly requires is debatable. The game developers have generously provided players with a complimentary one for each character, which is a pleasant gesture for something that serves no practical purpose other than aesthetics. It may be wise to acquire one or two additional transmogs while they are inexpensive in the beginning, but it is important to keep in mind that their cost increases over time. Blizzard has incorporated various trends into the game, including transmog, to enhance the enjoyment of players. In Diablo 4, customization options are particularly noteworthy. However, since transmog is purely a cosmetic feature, it would be unwise to spend excessive amounts of gold on it.
1 Increased Stash Space
The stash in Diablo 4 is not referring to the personal inventory space on the character, which is disappointingly limited. Instead, it is a chest located near the Wardrobe where players can store extra items.
The size of the stash is already larger than necessary, considering that players typically consume acquired items through upgrades, salvaging, or selling them immediately to vendors. It is possible that players who gather specific goods or materials may find this space useful, but the majority will not even utilize half of it. Therefore, it is not worth spending gold to purchase additional stash space.
Diablo 4 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
