Derek Hough Requests Support as Wife Hayley Erbert Undergoes 2nd Skull Surgery

Derek Hough is providing another update on his wife Hayley Erbert's health after she underwent emergency craniectomy.
"Thanks to all the prayers and love sent for Hayley's recovery, I believe they have made a significant difference," Hough, 38, shared on his Instagram Story on Wednesday, December 20. "I am incredibly grateful to all of you."
Hough updated fans that Erbert still had a journey ahead of her. "She is undergoing surgery this morning to replace a significant part of her skull that was removed during her Craniectomy," he added. "Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers as I truly believe the support has helped her through the past few weeks."
He ended with, "We love and appreciate you."
Hough’s sister, Julianne Hough, shared his message on her own Instagram Story on Wednesday, including a praying emoji and a red heart emoji.
In December, Derek disclosed that Erbert, 29, was in "stable condition" after having an emergency operation. "At the end of last night’s tour performance in Washington, D.C., my wife Hayley became disoriented and was taken to the hospital," he stated on Instagram on December 7. "She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy."

Derek expressed his gratitude to the "first responders and medical personnel" who came to Erbert's aid, although he did not provide details about her health scare. He also asked for prayers and positivity during this time. Their Dancing With the Stars family showed their support in the comments, with Peta Murgatroyd sending love and Xochitl Gomez focusing all her positivity and well wishes directly toward Hayley.
One day later, Derek announced that his wife was "on the road to recovery" after her surgery. "Hayley has always impressed me with her strength and resilience, especially in the last 48 hours. We are incredibly grateful for the support and love we have received," he shared on social media on December 8. "The kindness we've experienced during this unimaginably difficult and life-changing time has been unwavering."
Providing further updates on Erbert's condition, Derek shared on Friday, December 15, that he was starting to feel some "relief" following her surgery. "As you all know, the past week has been a difficult journey for us due to a sudden, life-threatening event," he wrote in the caption of an Instagram video. "It was a time of uncertainty and fear, but today we are filled with hope and relief as we share an update with you."
According to Derek, Erbert’s recuperation has been truly miraculous. He revealed on Friday that her upcoming surgery will "restore the skull to its natural shape and safeguard the brain from potential injury," and expressed gratitude to fans for their unwavering support.

Hough expressed, "It has made me truly realize how delicate life is and how swiftly circumstances can shift. However, it has also revealed the immense fortitude and determination that resides within us, as well as the importance of having a supportive network. ... We eagerly anticipate treasuring these moments with a heightened gratitude for life and the people within it."
Derek and Erbert began dating in 2015, one year after she joined him and Julianne, 35, on tour. He proposed in 2022, and the twosome tied the knot in August.
