Derek Hough Provides Update on Wife Hayley Erbert's Journey to Recovery Following Emergency Surgery

Derek Hough is giving an update on his wife, Hayley Erbert, after she was hospitalized for a cranial hematoma earlier this week.

Hayley's strength and resilience have always been an inspiration to me. In the past 48 hours, she has shown these qualities more than ever. She is now on the road to recovery and we are incredibly grateful for the support and love we have received. The kindness shown to us during this life-changing time is something we will never forget. The offers of assistance we have received have been truly humbling and appreciated. As a family, we hope to pay it forward in some way.

On Thursday, December 7th, Hough took to Instagram to announce that Erbert had been rushed to the hospital after experiencing disorientation following a performance in D.C. the day before. She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and needed an emergency craniectomy. Hough requested prayers and positivity during this challenging time.

Hough also mentioned that Erbert was in "stable condition" due to the care provided by first responders and medical professionals.

Later, Derek's sister, Julianne Hough, posted on social media asking for well wishes for her sister-in-law. "Please pray and send all your love, healing, and light to Hayley and Derek," Julianne wrote on her Instagram Story. "Thank you from the depths of our family's hearts! ️."

Erbert has faced previous health scares before. She disclosed that she and Derek were involved in a car accident last year while driving on slippery roads.

In December 2022, Erbert wrote on Instagram expressing gratitude for the circumstances, despite walking away with minor injuries. He acknowledged the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing loved ones. Derek, however, commented that Erbert had no memory of the crash and was surprisingly cheerful and willing to go out to dinner despite her injuries.

“That really scared me,” he said. “She came to 20 minutes later when the firemen arrived.”

Derek and Erbert started their relationship in 2015, a year after they crossed paths on Derek and Julianne’s Move Live Tour. Erbert joined DWTS as a troupe dancer for several seasons from 2016 onwards. They announced their engagement through a shared Instagram post in June 2022.

After Derek’s announcement on Thursday, several of the DWTS co-stars expressed their love and support for the couple. Co-host Alfonso Ribeiro wrote, "Sending you all the love I have in my soul. Prayers for a speedy recovery," and professional dancer Alan Bersten added, "Praying and sending love."
