Tanjiro, a character from the Demon Slayer series, is known for his likable personality, strength, and strong sense of justice. From the beginning of the anime series, it was clear that he possessed abilities beyond the average human, with remarkable endurance and strength. Through hard work and determination, he has evolved into a skilled swordsman and valuable member of the Demon Slayer Corps.

His journey was far from easy, as he faced numerous life-or-death situations that only made him stronger. Along the way, he also found mentors who helped shape his path.

Sakonji Urokodaki is one individual who had a significant influence on Tanjiro. Additionally, Kyojuro Rengoku and Giyu Tomioka are two other candidates who also had a profound impact on him. The question remains, however, as to which of the two Hashiras truly served as Tanjiro's mentor. Please note that this article may contain spoilers from the Demon Slayer manga series.

Tanjiro Kamado, the protagonist of the Demon Slayer series, did not have only one mentor. Sakonji Urokodaki, the former Water Hashira, initially guided him in swordsmanship, but as Tanjiro's skills progressed, he incorporated the Hinokami Kagura technique. Although Giyu Tomioka also played a role by sparing Tanjiro's sister and directing him to Urokodaki, it was Kyojuro Rengoku who had the most significant impact on Tanjiro's life.

Throughout the Mugen Train arc, Rengoku not only acknowledged Tanjiro, but also entrusted his will to him. If he were still with us, Rengoku’s fierce and unwavering spirit would embody the perfect qualities that Tanjiro sought in a mentor. Tanjiro holds dear memories of Rengoku and everything he learned from him while he was alive. Despite his absence, Rengoku continues to be a source of strength for Tanjiro, playing a pivotal role in his growth as a role model.

In the Demon Slayer series, Giyu Tomioka is known for his reserved nature and minimal interaction with others. In the Swordsmith Village arc, Tanjiro played a crucial role in helping Tomioka overcome his insecurities and regain his strength. This bond between them portrays Tomioka as a supportive figure to Tanjiro, resembling that of a brother, as they stand by each other during their most challenging moments.

Ultimately, Rengoku served as the mentor figure that Tanjiro deeply admired. However, each Hashira in the Demon Slayer series imparted important lessons to Tanjiro. His use of Rengoku's sword hilt on his own blade demonstrates the profound impact Rengoku had on his life.

Gyomei’s dedication and patience, Sanemi Shinazugawa’s unyielding determination, Obanai Iguro’s bravery in the face of adversity, Mitsuri’s ability to persevere in challenging situations, and Tengen Uzuis’ unwavering resolve all served as examples of the valuable lessons Tanjiro learned in the anime and manga series. While Rengoku's influence was significant, the advice of every Hashira played a crucial role in Tanjiro's development.

As a passionate fan of the Demon Slayer series, I find the exploration of Tanjiro's mentors, particularly the comparison between Tomioka and Rengoku, to be a fascinating topic. While both characters played important roles in Tanjiro's journey, I believe Rengoku had a more profound and lasting impact on our beloved protagonist.

Rengoku's unwavering spirit, fierce determination, and deep trust in Tanjiro made him the ideal mentor figure that Tanjiro sought. The Mugen Train arc beautifully showcased Rengoku's influence, as he not only acknowledged Tanjiro's potential but also entrusted him with his will. Even after Rengoku's untimely demise, his teachings and memories continue to guide and inspire Tanjiro, shaping him into the exceptional swordsman and hero he becomes.
