For those who like to have all their favorite games, movies, and podcasts on their phones, available storage can quickly become a concern. While uninstalling apps is one way to free up space, Android is introducing a new feature called "auto-archive" that does the job for you.
Once opted in, the feature will archive the apps you use the least, reducing their size in your phone's internal storage by up to 60%. This includes keeping both the app's icon in your launcher and its data. If you ever want to use the app again, simply tap the icon and it will quickly re-download from Google Play.
Essentially, the app is uninstalled and everything else is kept, resulting in a storage-saving deep sleep. Unlike manually uninstalling an app, which removes everything related to it from your phone's storage, auto-archive is an option for apps you're not using frequently, making it a convenient way to free up space on your device.
If your device is running out of storage and you want to install a new app, Google will ask you if you want to auto-archive the apps you use the least. If you want to read more about it, check the source link below for more technical information.
