Dean McDermott confirmed his split from Tori Spelling on social media. The 57-year-old recently changed his Instagram bio by removing the line that said, “Married to the love of my life @torispelling ❤️.” It is unclear exactly when McDermott made this adjustment, but the mention of Spelling was still there as of November 2023.
McDermott updated his bio to include being a "Dad of 7, Actor, Comedian, Chef," and recently added "Alcohol and Drug Counselor" and "Breathwork Specialist" to the list.
On Friday, March 29, news surfaced that Spelling, aged 50, filed for divorce officially after being separated for nine months. Court documents from TMZ revealed that Spelling cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split and is requesting spousal support.
The Beverly Hills, 90210 alum requested sole physical custody but joint legal custody of their five children, Liam (17), Stella (15), Hattie (12), Finn (11), and Beau (7), with Spelling. McDermott also has a son, Jack (25), from his previous marriage.
After almost 17 years of marriage, McDermott took to Instagram to announce his separation from Spelling.

With a heavy heart and great sadness, after 18 years together and raising 5 wonderful children, @torispelling and I have decided to go our separate ways. On June 17, 2023, McDermott shared this news and expressed our commitment to co-parenting and supporting our children through this tough time. We kindly ask for privacy as we navigate this new chapter in our lives.
Shortly after sharing his post, McDermott removed it. Sources revealed that a disagreement between him and Spelling prompted his public announcement. Interestingly, McDermott's post coincided with the date of separation mentioned in Spelling's divorce paperwork.
McDermott later revealed the reason for their breakup in an interview with the Daily Mail. He shared that he had a moment of anger fueled by alcohol in front of Spelling and their young children.
In a candid interview with the Daily Mail in November 2023, McDermott confessed, "Alcohol initially made me feel better about myself. It made me feel good until it didn't anymore — it ended up isolating me." He admitted to consuming a large amount of tequila and prescription medications every night, alone in a room while his family was nearby. This behavior led to the breakdown of their relationship and the eventual split with Tori. McDermott realized he couldn't continue living that way.
McDermott is currently sober and living in a men’s group facility. The former Chopped Canada host has since praised both Spelling and his new girlfriend, Lily Calo, for supporting his sobriety.
Editor's P/S:
The news of Dean McDermott and Tori Spelling's separation is a disheartening reminder of the challenges that couples can face in their long-term relationships. The article provides insights into the couple's struggles, highlighting the impact of McDermott's alcohol and drug abuse on their marriage. It's commendable that McDermott has acknowledged his issues and is taking steps toward recovery, but it's equally important to recognize the hurt that his actions have inflicted on Spelling and their children.
McDermott's confession of drinking excessively in front of his young children is particularly concerning, as it underscores the detrimental effects that addiction can have on family dynamics. Spelling's decision to file for divorce after months of separation is a difficult but understandable choice, as she prioritizes the well-being of her children and herself. The couple's commitment to co-parenting is a positive sign, and it is hoped that they can find a way to navigate this transition amicably for the sake of their family.
