Marvel fans are eagerly anticipating the team-up of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the upcoming movieDeadpool & Wolverine” this summer. But there is another character making her debut in the film, and she happens to be of the four-legged variety.

In the supercharged sequel set to release in July, Dogpool, the canine companion to the Merc with a Mouth, will play a significant role. Ryan Reynolds has recently shared some exciting new details about the dog who inspired the character.

Reynolds shared with Empire Magazine that the award-winning Britain’s Ugliest Dog, whose real name is Peggy, caught his attention. He felt a strong connection to her as she reminded him of Wade Wilson, the alter-ego of Deadpool.

Dogpool made its debut in a 2010 Marvel comic book and Reynolds revealed that the character was initially a small idea that grew during the creation of "Deadpool & Wolverine." As production progressed, Dogpool became an integral part of the movie, solidifying its presence in the storyline.

Peggy, a Pug and Chinese Crested mix known as a "Pugese," was crowned Britain's ugliest dog by BBC in January 2023. The adorable pooch resides in Leven, near Hornsea, in East Yorkshire.

Peggy has her own popular Instagram page called "Dogpool" and even made a cameo in a photo shared by actor Ryan Reynolds on his Instagram in December last year.

“It’s love at first sight,” he told Empire of the bond between his character Deadpool and the pup. “He loves Dogpool.”
