Cyberpunk 2077: SGF Demo Shocks Fans with Stunning Confirmation

CD Projekt Red's latest demo for Cyberpunk 2077's DLC at SGF 2023 reveals an exciting confirmation of a fan theory, leaving players eager for what's to come in the highly anticipated game expansion

CD Projekt Red's recently showcased playable demo of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty at Summer Game Fest 2023 has confirmed a longstanding fan theory about the game's upcoming expansion. The release of pre-orders for the DLC further solidifies the notion that the highly anticipated expansion is on the verge of being released. Despite its announcement back in April 2022, the expansion has remained shrouded in mystery, with only a second teaser in December revealing the addition of Idris Elba to the cast. With the Summer Game Fest 2023, CDPR had the opportunity to shed more light on the DLC, but for now, the developer is only offering a playable demo behind closed doors to physically present attendees at its YouTube Theater venue in Inglewood, California.

Although the demo for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty was not meant to be released, gameplay footage still surfaced on GameStop's Instagram Stories on June 9. Despite the brief duration of the clip, a closer look reveals that V will encounter Rosalind Myers in the DLC, as finding the current NUSA President is listed as an objective at the end of the video. While the original teaser for the expansion showed a crashed Air Force One, it was unclear if Myers was aboard the plane when it was taken down. Additionally, the closed captions from the demo revealed that V converses with a character named Songbird while exploring the wreckage, further supporting a major DLC leak from mid-2022 that identified Songbird as a central figure in the upcoming expansion.

The SGF 2023 playable demo footage hints at an upcoming UI overhaul for CDPR's popular RPG, with the addition of multiple quickslots allowing players to map grenades and Cyberware abilities to different buttons. The HUD now constantly displays the player's chosen Sandevistan or OS implant, and the phone and car button hints have been redesigned. These changes may not be limited to Phantom Liberty and could potentially be included in the Cyberpunk 2077 1.7 update, which CDPR has confirmed will bring various quality-of-life improvements.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty launches sometime in 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
