Former President Donald Trump shared a video on Friday that showed a picture of President Joe Biden tied up in the back of a pickup truck. Trump mentioned that the video was taken on Long Island the day before, while he was at the wake of NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller, who passed away during a traffic stop. The video displays two trucks adorned with flags and stickers showing support for Trump; Biden's image was on the back of the second truck.
Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung responded to the situation by stating that the picture was displayed on the back of a pick-up truck traveling down the highway. He expressed concern over Democrats and individuals he referred to as "crazed lunatics" who have not only called for violence against President Trump and his family but have also used the justice system against him.
In contrast, Biden campaign spokesman Michael Tyler criticized the image shared by Donald Trump, describing it as inappropriate and reminiscent of language used to incite violence. He mentioned instances where Trump has made statements that have been interpreted as encouraging political violence, urging people to take these actions seriously. Tyler pointed to the events of January 6th, where Capitol Police officers were attacked while protecting democracy, as evidence of the consequences of such rhetoric.
The US Secret Service declined to comment on the video, stating that they do not confirm or discuss protective intelligence matters.
This video is another example of Trump incorporating dark and violent imagery into his campaign messages. It seems that his use of provocative language is helping his campaign for the White House.
Trump recently stated that if he loses the 2024 election, it would have severe consequences for the US auto industry and the nation.
During his statement, Trump pledged to impose a "100% tariff" on cars produced outside the US, claiming that only his presidency could safeguard domestic auto production. This declaration was made amidst a discussion about the auto industry, labor unions, the shift to electric vehicles, and the presence of auto plants in Mexico.
In December, the ex-president claimed that migrants are harming the US and used quotes from Russian President Putin to criticize Biden as a danger to democracy.
This fits with his history of praising foreign leaders who use undemocratic tactics to stay in control.
At a campaign event in New Hampshire in November, Trump faced criticism for using the word "vermin" to describe his political rivals. Biden condemned his comments, comparing them to language used in Nazi Germany.
During the event, Trump told the crowd that they will root out communists, Marxists, fascists, and radical leftists who he referred to as "vermin" living in the country. He warned that the real threat does not come from the radical right, but from the growing radical left.
