In 2019, a well-known female Twitch streamer named Alinity faced accusations after a video clip went viral, showing her throwing her cat over her head during a live stream. Another disturbing clip came to light, revealing Alinity deceptively getting her cat to lick vodka off her lips, which is highly toxic for cats.
Regrettably, on July 19, the streaming community witnessed yet another incident of animal abuse during a live stream by a controversial Kick streamer known as "Suspendas." In a "sleep stream," while the streamer was still awake, his pet cat jumped onto his bed. Instead of responding with care and empathy, Suspendas forcefully kicked the innocent animal off his bed when it tried to walk over him. This act of cruelty shocked many people and resulted in an outpouring of condemnation on social media. Some questioned if this behavior should be considered animal abuse and criticized the Kick platform for allowing such actions to go unnoticed. It is unclear whether Kick will take any action against Suspendas. However, it is important to mention that in February, Twitch permanently banned a Polish Twitch streamer named Sideneuke following a disturbing incident that gained widespread attention. During a live stream, the streamer seemed to have accidentally hit a dog with a car. Intriguingly, she subsequently migrated to Kick, where she was permitted to continue her streaming activities.
The responsibility of streaming platforms like Twitch and Kick in addressing abusive or harmful behavior, especially towards animals, is of utmost concern. In light of these incidents, these platforms can greatly impact the situation by establishing concise guidelines and policies.
