The 81st annual Golden Globe Awards will have a different look this year, but the list of nominees for the 2024 ceremony is just as full of talented individuals as always.
On Monday, December 11, Cedric the Entertainer and Wilmer Valderrama revealed the nominations, recognizing outstanding achievements in both film and television. The lineup now includes two new categories: best performance in stand-up comedy on television and cinematic and box office achievement. The latter will be given to the highest-earning or most widely seen blockbusters that also demonstrate artistic excellence.
In the same year, the HFPA pledged to increase membership with a focus on recruiting Black members and to establish a committee of racially and ethnically diverse members to advise the Board and oversee organizational reform. The Golden Globes later returned to NBC in January, with Hollywood A-listers once again attending the 2023 ceremony.
In June, it was announced that the HFPA had been dissolved and that Dick Clark Productions had acquired the Golden Globes. HFPA president Helen Hoehne stated, "We are excited to close on this much anticipated member-approved transaction and transition from a member-led organization to a commercial enterprise."
Jay Penske, the CEO of Dick Clark Productions, expressed the company's desire to maintain the most engaging live television awards ceremony in the world while also expanding the iconic brand and attracting new and existing audiences to honor the best in television and movies.
The upcoming Golden Globes will be the first major film and TV awards show to take place since the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes concluded in September and November.
