Matt Rife has publicly criticized a plastic surgeon for joking about creating the "best jawline" for a patient who then got canceled. Dr. Benjamin Caughlin shared a video on Instagram about the incident on November 27, expressing his disappointment.
After fans quickly speculated that the surgeon was referring to the comedian because of recent backlash and his chiseled jawline, Rife, 28, took action and responded to Caughlin on Tuesday, November 28.
"Just so you know, lying about medical history is illegal," he wrote at the time. Fans promptly shared their thoughts in the comments section.
One follower criticized the surgeon while another pointed out that the comments revealed the truth. A third user advised not to take the internet so seriously. In a July boxing video for Access Hollywood, Rife denied the plastic surgery rumors.
In the clip, Lopez, 50, asked Rife, “[What’s the] funniest lie you’ve ever heard about yourself?”

Dr. Benjamin Caughlin MD, FACS (@manyfacesofchicago) shared a post in which Rife responded, "That I’ve had plastic surgery. That’s the funniest thing in the entire world to me. Because puberty hit me so late. I didn’t look like this until I was 23. Everyone’s like ‘Oh, he’s got cheek fillers, he’s had his lips done, [and] jawline surgery.’”
Earlier this month, Rife faced criticism for his contentious jokes following the release of his debut Netflix comedy special.
In his Natural Selection act, Rife began with a joke about domestic violence. He recounted a visit to Baltimore with a friend where they encountered a waitress with a black eye. Initially wondering why she wasn't working in the kitchen to avoid being seen with the injury, he then remarked, "I feel like if she could cook, she wouldn't have that black eye."

In another part of the show, he made a joke about a former classmate with special needs.
In response to the criticism, Rife took to his Instagram Story. On November 20, he wrote, "If you've ever been offended by a joke I've told, here's a link to my official apology." The link led followers to a page selling special needs helmets.
