Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney's on-screen chemistry garnered a lot of attention during the filming of Anyone But You. However, Powell reiterated that their relationship is strictly platonic. During a recent appearance on the Today show on Monday, December 11, the duo addressed questions about their friendship. When asked by anchor Hoda Kotb about the possibility of romance between them, Powell, 35, dismissed the idea with a laugh.
"We may not be a couple, but we truly care for each other,” the actor from Top Gun: Maverick clarified. “I genuinely believe she is one of the most amazing people I’ve ever come across. She’s truly remarkable."
In Anyone But You, Powell and Sweeney, both 26, portray former lovers who fake a relationship to survive a destination wedding in Australia. The new romantic comedy is set to be released in theaters on Friday, December 22nd.
Despite fans speculating about their love connection after seeing cozy set photos of Powell and Sweeney in bathing suits, Powell clarified that their chemistry was simply for the cameras. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he emphasized that their great chemistry was essential for the rom-com they were filming, and praised Sweeney as the easiest person to have chemistry with on set. He also mentioned that he never got tired of talking to Sweeney, and that their connection was immediate as if they had known each other forever.
He added that it was “very easy to pretend [to] fall in love with” Sweeney, calling her “one of the most talented actresses we have.”

In April, it was confirmed that Powell and Paris, 31, ended their three-year relationship. A month later, an insider informed Us that the rumors about Powell were a major challenge for Sweeney and Davino, 40, but mentioned that Sweeney and Powell kept things strictly professional on set.
Sweeney later expressed that she and her costar are not concerned with people's opinions about their friendship with Powell. "We have a great time together and have a lot of respect for each other; he works hard and so do I," she told Variety in August. "We are looking forward to the press tour, and I just finished ADR with him. We are in constant communication and always find each other humorous."
