Christmas Drawing Fails to Produce Jackpot Winner, Powerball Prize Soars to $685 Million

The Powerball jackpot soars to a whopping $685 million as no lucky player managed to match all six numbers in the Christmas drawing

The Powerball jackpot has increased to an estimated $685 million after no ticket matched all six numbers during Monday night's Christmas drawing. The upcoming drawing on Wednesday offers a top prize with a lump-sum option of an estimated $344.7 million, as stated on Powerball's website.

Since 2013, there hasn't been a Powerball jackpot winner on Christmas Day. The most recent win was in Missouri, where a lucky ticket holder claimed a $71.5 million prize. The winning numbers drawn for this year were 5, 12, 20, 24, 29, and the Powerball was 4.

No one claimed the jackpot on Monday, but there were multiple tickets that matched the first five numbers and received substantial prizes.

Tickets in New Hampshire and Pennsylvania each claimed $1 million. Meanwhile, a ticket in California won approximately $2.08 million, according to the state's lottery system. Non-jackpot prizes in California are based on the number of winners and ticket sales, so the amounts may vary from the fixed prizes listed on the Powerball website.

Two lucky players from Colorado and Georgia each won $2 million prizes by including the Power Play feature in their ticket, as reported by the Powerball website.

The last time the Powerball jackpot was won was on October 11, when a ticket in California claimed the $1.765 billion grand prize. Since then, there have been 32 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner.

The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9, but the odds of scoring the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, Powerball says.
