Chelsea are believed to have triggered the release clause of Crystal Palace striker Michael Olise. The release clause is rumored to be £35m. As a result, Chelsea now have the opportunity to engage in discussions with the player regarding personal terms and undergo medical assessments.
The decision rests with Olise if he wants to talk to Chelsea.
The 21-year-old is currently out injured after having surgery on a torn hamstring sustained playing for the France U21s.
Speaking on the eve of the new Premier League season last week, Roy Hodgson confessed that he was uncertain about Olise's future at the club this summer. He further added that the forward's fate is completely beyond his control.
There are also rumors that the treble-winning team, Manchester City, is keen on acquiring Olise, considering his involvement in 13 Premier League goals last season. This impressive tally includes 11 assists and 2 goals of his own.
Olise's exceptional performance earned him the prestigious Palace players' Player of the Season award, and he still has three years remaining on his contract with the Eagles. When questioned about his confidence regarding Olise's future with Palace, Hodgson provided an exclusive response to We News, stating, "At present, it's uncertain to say.
If there are clubs vigorously and earnestly vying for his attention with tempting offers, he will have to make a choice.
I can only observe and see if there are clubs that will enter the picture, presenting enticing bids to lure him away. In such a scenario, what decision will he make? He is aware that we are exceedingly eager to retain his presence here.
"We strongly believe that this location offers excellent opportunities for his career growth and we are confident in our ability to provide him with a solid foundation.
"Unfortunately, these circumstances are beyond my control and everything will ultimately be determined by future events."
As a manager, it is impossible to have absolute certainty that the players you currently have, the ones you appreciate and desire, will always remain with your team due to the existence of the transfer market.
My only wish is that, in this particular instance, the transfer market does not penalize us by enticing one of our incredibly vital and indispensable players to depart.
