Cassie expressed her gratitude to her "family, friends and strangers" for their love and support in a heartfelt Instagram post. She released this statement almost a week after a video of her ex-boyfriend Sean "Diddy" Combs assaulting her was made public.

In her post on Thursday, May 23, Cassie shared that the overwhelming love she received has helped her younger self find a sense of security. However, she emphasized that this is just the beginning. She highlighted the importance of addressing domestic violence as a crucial issue that has deeply affected her. Despite the challenges she has faced, Cassie acknowledged that she has made progress through hard work and is in a better place today. She also acknowledged that her journey to healing is ongoing.

The statement continued: "I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to address this matter seriously. I kindly request that EVERYONE be open to believing victims from the start. It takes courage to speak the truth about a situation where you felt helpless."

Cassie extended her support to those who may still be struggling with fear.

She concluded by emphasizing the importance of reaching out to others for support instead of isolating oneself. She expressed that no one should bear their burdens alone and that the continuous journey towards healing is made easier with the support of others.

On Friday, May 17, CNN shared a video from 2016 showing Diddy, aged 54 at the time, involved in a violent altercation at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles. The footage captured Diddy striking his then-girlfriend Cassie, causing her to fall to the ground at the elevator bay. Subsequently, he proceeded to kick and drag her down the hallway.

Cassie's lawyer, Douglas H. Wigdor, stated on Friday that the video confirmed Mr. Combs' disturbing and predatory behavior. He praised Cassie for her courage in speaking out.

On Sunday, May 19, Diddy issued an apology on social media for his "inexcusable" behavior shown in the video.

"It's hard to look back on the toughest moments in your life, but sometimes it's necessary," he mentioned. "I was really struggling. I hit rock bottom, but I don't want to make any excuses."

The musician admitted to taking "complete responsibility" for the content in the video. "I'm truly appalled," he stated.

The apology video faced criticism from many, including Cassie's lawyer Meredith Firetog who stated that it seemed more focused on himself rather than the people he has hurt. It was also noted that he did not mention Cassie by name. Additionally, CNN's Elizabeth Wagmeister reported that sources have indicated Diddy is not allowed to say Cassie's name.

Diddy and Cassie were in an on-and-off relationship from 2007 to 2018. In November 2023, Cassie filed a lawsuit against Diddy, alleging abuse and rape during their time together. The lawsuit was settled quickly, but since then, other alleged victims have come forward with similar accusations against Diddy, which he has denied.

Editor's P/S:

Cassie's statement is a testament to the courage and resilience of domestic violence survivors. Her decision to speak out about her experience, despite the potential consequences, is a powerful example of reclaiming her narrative and breaking the silence that often surrounds abuse. The outpouring of support she has received is a reminder that she is not alone in her journey. It is essential to listen to and believe victims, as their voices are often marginalized and dismissed.

The video of the assault is a chilling reminder of the physical and emotional trauma that victims of domestic violence endure. Diddy's apology, while acknowledging his wrongdoing, fell short of addressing the impact of his actions on Cassie and the broader issue of violence against women. The ongoing legal proceedings and allegations against him highlight the need for accountability and systemic change to end the scourge of domestic violence. Cassie's bravery in speaking out serves as an inspiration for others to seek help and break free from the cycle of abuse.
